“Got An upgrade?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

I had reserved the club ten because I liked how well the room looked in the pictures and also because of the fact that it was for adults only. I was really exited to go and spend a romantic weekend getaway with my boyfriend but as soon as we saw the room we were disappointed. When we checked in we were told we GOT AN UPGRADE to floor 15th, so we were even more exited but we came to the realization that yes it was more spacious than club ten but it looked really old and to top it off, next to our room there were a bunch of teenagers dancing, screaming and had loud music all night long. My boyfriend and I spent all day outside because there was a lot of noise and the room was not really pleasing to be in. For the money I payed, it was not worth the stay.

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay. Club Ten is our VIP adults-only area and getting upgraded to our VIP floor, on 15, the majority of our guests are grateful for the opportunity to have an upgraded room. Thank you for taking the time to review your stay.

On the way from Alabama we read some of the reviews from people that are currently staying at the San Luis and got scared. Almost backed out of our stay here but really glad we gave it a chance first because those people obviously had a laundry list of unrealistic expectations or either isolated incidents which are to be expected in any place you stay. Our check in was a breeze and the staff have been extremely polite and helpful. We have a room on the 15th floor and it did not disappoint.

So far we are having a great honeymoon here at the San Luis. It is within walking distance to a lot of nice restaurants and attractions. We love the view of the beach from our bed. The pool area is very nice and inviting even if the lounge chairs are a bit close to each other. Also to be expected at such a highly booked conference and hotel. We checked out the gym and spa which were also very appealing and in a convenient area.

We love that the pool stays open til 2am since we are young and night owls. The staff are always nearby to answer whatever questions you may have effectively. We were a little shocked at the price to rent a cabana for the day but I suppose it's not so bad if you are with a group instead of just 2 people like us. We really had no need for one anyways. We can't sit still that long with all the things there are to do around here.

To top or off, the beds are like sleeping on a cloud. Lol. Especially nice after a 12 hour drive. Also as a tv junkie myself, I was so glad to see that they have nice sized flatscreen tv's with some of my favorite channels for when I'm laying down to fall asleep.

We've already discussed returning with our son since there are tons of things here that a kid would love to do.

The hotel is priced accordingly for the location, views and amenities. Maybe we wouldn't have such an expensive room on our next stay but this VIP room was a gift for our wedding on the 29th of June. They did a great job choosing the San Luis and we can already see ourselves making the 12 hour drive several times in the future years to stay here on family vacations.

If you read bad reviews on this place, I'd suggest you at least come in and check out your room before you judge it. Remember that some people are really negative and hard to please. Again we are glad that we gave it a fair shot because we would've really missed out on a great place and great memories.

Thank you San Luis for making our honeymoon an excellent memory to recall for the rest of our lives. :)

Our visit started off with some discomfort in that we were assigned a room that did not match our requested reservations. We had reservations above the seventh floor because of the view and we had paid the premium for this type room. The Hotel was basically full and we had to wait for approximately 1 hour for the front desk personnel to locate us the correct room. We are a frequent vistor to this faility ad haven't had this experience before. However we were very luck to have been waited on my the resentative named Quinn and the professional manner in which he took control of the situation and corrected it was exceptional. We also experienced outstanding service from Tiffany at the pool service and from Dennis in handling our check out and our entry.
The only thing about the room is that you need to change the mattress as the one in our room 1220 was really worn. The stay and the facilities area excelant and we will return asap.

Thanks to your staff.

Room Tip: above the 7th floor overlooking the pool area.

A little pricey, but worth it. My advice is to go with a group of friends, because some of you might have to wait beautful waiting area inside the spa, but you can order food and drinks while you are back there and have a great time. I had a massage which was wonderful, even though I had a sunburn at the time! Also, if you need a small gift or something while you are staying there, they have a nice little selection of candles and beauty products.

Starting with check-in by friendly and efficient Jana (Chicago, Il) to luckily checking-out with her as well, we will be returning to the wonderful and inviting San Luis again. When I read negative reviews by fellow hotel guests, I realize how impossible it is for the hospitality biz to meet certain guests needs. I feel such cranky folks have a lot of issues long before they check into most properties. Give us a break - this place is heaven! Ask for Joseph at the Steakhouse to enhance a really great evening.

I am actually staying in the hotel right now, with a handful of other girls, in multiple rooms. I can honestly say that we all wish we would have spent our money on a beach house rental or the Hotel Galvez. Our favorite is the Hotel Galvez, but we let one our friends talk us into this overrated hotel.

Out dated carpets and furnishings, linens that seem to have been washed too many time ( fur ball things), and cloudy pool with weird stuff floating in it. Staff doesn't seem to be as professional as most 4 star hotels. Check in was at 4, room want ready till after 5. Bar service at pool takes ove 15 minutes, and there were at least 5-6 bar tenders.

Love the restaurants though!

Room Tip: Hotel Galvez or beach rental

We appreciate your feedback and hope you spoke with Management before your left, so we could rectify any issues you had. I do apologize for you having to wait for a drink at our pool bar. During the summer our pool gets quite crowded, so drinks or food can take a few minutes

We needed a little two day get-away and chose the San Luis from the internet. It was as advertised, clean, all ocean views, neatly packaged resort. The staff is incredibly friendly and never more than a few feet away. Location could not be more convenient, handy to everything on Galveston Island. Our visit was during the week and we could tell the weekends are probably pretty wild. On a Wed. night, in one of the bars, there was a table of drunks so loud and obnoxious they drove customers away. Why the management tolerated that we'll never understand. Other than that, the San Luis is friendly, welcoming, clean and a great place to spend a vacation. They've added a new restaurant, The Grotto, that is excellent. It's going to shake up some of the old complacent tourist traps.

Room Tip: Go high, floor not price.
