“Wounded Heros of Texas trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2012

Many thanks to the Management team for a great three day stay for Wounded Heros of Texas! Conference Room was reserved for all our activities with their staff ready to assist. Location is ideal for all restaurants and beach visits. Plenty of parking. We stayed in a 1 bedroom unit which was adequate for the three of us. Couch pull out was really uncomfortable but a bed roll on top solved the problem. Bedroom small but compact with Queen bed but had plenty of storage space and flatscreen tv. All rooms have beach view from balcony. Two pool areas and BBQ area were clean and attractive. Staff was friendly and attentive.

Room Tip: Talk to the hotel rep. All rooms have balcony view of ocean. Might want to stay near elevator for...

Wonderful place to stay with kids! Balcony had view of the ocean, and only a walk across the street to get to the beach. Great location everything is within walking distance. Pools were very nice and clean! Would defiantly stay again!

Not bad, but not great either. Rooms were really small, have to pay for things like ice and Landry, which is annoying.
Location is good, but it is in need of a remodel. I would choose somewhere else if I had to do it over again.

Ive never experienced this kind of treatment... Im very easy going, go with the flow.

Let me first say that Casa Del Mar is an OK place to stay.
Nothing fancy but location is good.
We went with 4 teens for quick weekend beach time/schlitterbaum.

We rented through Wilma and Betty.
We got there are 6pm (check in 3 - 4 pm). We hauled all our luggage up to our room.
There was someone in our unit who said they didnt leave for a few days!
Called and called and called wilma and betty for about 45 min. standing outside of this room.
No answer. I was getting panicked we wouldnt have a room for the night ( and maybe the next 2!) Sent kids off to beach unsupervised. Went to front desk. They were VERY nice and found us a room for ONLY that first night. they felt bad for us and gave us a rate of $120.. we paid wilma and betty $150/night. I finally got a call back from Wilma and betty. They asked us to hold off and they had another room in the building.... so we hauled all our bags back up to another location... just to be funny I knocked before entering. Surprise... A man answered who had it rented for the weekend!!!
we hauled all luggage down to parking lot again.
IT IS NOW 9PM ! We were hoping to get there to enjoy some daylight and dinner out!!!!! We rented the room thru Casa Del Mar. for less $.
GET THIS we have NOT received a credit from WILMA and BETTY ($150 for first night) and we DID NOT stay in their unit the first night because THEY had double booked it!

We moved to their unit for the second night. it was OK.
No bed pillows or blankets for the futon, so the girls used beach towels.
The shower door wouldnt close because it was off track, but we lived with it.
I did email WILMA and BETTY and told them the shower had a problem.
GET THIS - they charged us for the repair.... and it was broken when we got there!!!
The also charged us for extra$ for cleaning because we didnt do dishes.
We rinsed them and put them in sink, but there were no cleaning supplies or dish soap,
so what do you do? Gross!

Wow what an eye opening experience.
We had fun with the kids, but we will stick to the resorts vs private owned units.
Please take this warning... I had read one on them before I booked, but figured the reviewers were just "complainers" I am not :)

My wife and I needed a few days away so we decided to make the 5 hour drive from Dallas to Galveston. We'd found the Casa Del Mar online and decided since it was oceanfront, (not exactly...see picture of Golden Corral from patio) we'd give it a go.

Upon arrival, checkin was very easy, but I found it odd that they didn't need the license plate number off my vehicle. They just gave you a flimsy piece of paper to hang from your rear view mirror stating the dates of our stay. The hanger was so flimsy that it actually blew out of the door 3 times during our stay. One evening I forgot to stick it back on the dash and received a "nastygram" on my windshield the next morning. Had the front desk required license plate numbers, this would not have been necessary.

Here's our experience with room #280. The condo ranks as strickly just "okay". We thought we'd use the kitchen, but decided eating out was easier. The kitchen in this unit, as I'm sure with every unit in the complex, is very SMALL, but has a frig, stove, older microwave, etc... The floors are a dark wood laminate and very attractive. The walls, bland, off-white with no decoration whatsoever. (NO beach feel here)...the bedroom is odd, barely functional with a queen bed that hardly fits in the room. The bed is up against the wall on one side, so getting in and out is difficult, especially if you're stuck on the inside. Oh and some better pillows would really help too!!

Now for the bathroom. Time for an update!!! Just take a look at the pictures, nuff said.

The complex has two pools, but we only visited the one nearest our condo. Not bad, really not bad at all. Very decent size with multiple chaise lounges, tables and 4 umbrella covered picnic type tables. Nice foliage as well, palm trees, flowering plants, etc... but FYI: It seems like ANYBODY can use the pool area. There was no one checking to see if the people at the pool were staying at the complex.

All in all, probably would not return to the Casa Del Mar and would not recommend it to friends. It was simply just "okay".... And in need of some updating and maintenance.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. This unit is a privately managed unit, not part of the on sight Rental Management Program. The on sight “hotel” program units are professionally managed and follow strict standards and guidelines including being rated as three diamond by AAA. We are sorry if you were disappointed with your experience on the property, however, you will need to contact the owner you rented the unit from and ask them to address your concerns with the suite. We will be able to address your concerns regarding the parking permits and we are always working to keep the pools exclusive to registered owners and guests – no easy feat on Galveston Island, but we will strive to perfect this. Glad you enjoyed the pools though! We recommend all potential guests compare options when making reservations and consider issues such as this when deciding to rent from a private individual or the on sight management team. Again, thank you for your comments, please feel free to call 800-392-1205 and ask to speak to a member of our management team if you need additional assistance or information.

My husband and I decided to get away for a couple of days during our Christmas break (yes the review is late). We took advantage of a special Casa was offering and for us it was a very pleasant stay. The rooms are a little outdated but ours was VERY clean and that is important to me. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly! There is a separate bedroom and two bunk beds which would be perfect for a family with small children. There is a coffee maker and a basket with coffee and tea. There is a small functional kitchen. We did have a view from the balcony of Golden Corral and part of the Gulf but we had fun imagining what the people at GC were saying as they came out of the restaurant. Easy access to the seawall for evening strolls. To me, Casa was good enough to say I would definitely stay here again!

We arrived around just after 4:00 p.m. to find that the air-conditioning was out in our unit. The surly guy at the front desk told us it wasn't their problem since it was a privately owned unit. After contacting the booking agent's emergency hotline, the owner sent an A/C repairman over right away. The repairman determined that the problem was on the roof. However the management refused to let any workmen on the roof in the evening. So our first night in Galveston was absolutely miserable. An electrician had to be called in the next day to fix the problem which was apparently caused by workmen who where were working on another unit and inadvertently messed up the A/C connections in our unit. The owner graciously comped that first night for us. Now - overall, the place is well-kept and convenient to Seawall attractions. However it's on the corner of the busiest intersection in town so getting in and out of the parking lot is almost always a challenge. The unit is smaller than it appears in photos, but adequate. Our kids were comfortable in the bunk-beds. We won't stay there again though, because of how the A/C problem was handled by Casa Del Mar management and front desk..

Room Tip: We had a unit right on the seawall, but it wasn't that great because of all the traffic

As this unit was handled through a private owner, the on sight management is not able to respond to the comments regarding any other issues than the roof access. Please note that after hours safety concerns regarding roof access would have prevented allowing anyone onto the roof after hours. However, management will look into your complaint to ensure the limited access was warranted and we hope you will consider staying at Casa del Mar in the future.
