This resort is next to Jamaica Beach (watch your speed in this little hamlet!), just minutes away from the hustle, bustle and crowds of Galveston's central area. The units are spacious and clean, and when we had maintenance issues, Greg and his team made sure they were addressed immediately.
Stay away from the sales staff. They are a different breed and will only pretend to listen to you if they think they can sell you a timeshare.
When we visited over Memorial Day weekend, there was a lot of seaweed coming ashore but that's a good thing to help build the beaches and create a protective barrier between the water and the land. We found a nice little pocket park next to Woody's on the drive into town, and we really enjoyed going swimming where the seaweed was pushed away from the water's edge as much as possible.
All the beaches had seaweed to some degree, but there were ways to have fun without letting the seaweed get you down. I just wish more people would throw their trash into the many available trash barrels instead of littering the beaches. How thoughtless and rude!
We were thrilled to learn we could bring along our dog for a non-refundable $100 fee and have him stay with us at the resort. There were lots of other really nice guests and their pets, so we had some very pleasant chats while walking our pup. We were also able to bring our dog to the beaches with us, and he had a ball chasing waves, rolling in seaweed and sand, swimming with us, and trying to play with the little sand crabs. He never did understand why those little crabs would crawl into the sand instead of playing with him!
The resort offers board games, movies, miniature golf, swimming, tennis, playground, and other activities. They also have an alligator habitat next door to the resort, but we didn't see any gators after our first day. It was far enough away from the main part of the resort that safety was never a concern for us.
The gift shop/restaurant is more of a joke than a serious business. They offer beach toys, t-shirts and candles. The food menu has 4 items, and the ice cream case was nearly empty when we stopped by for lunch. There were only 3 items in there several days after the holiday rush was over. Too bad they didn't want to restock!
The beds were VERY comfortable, especially for my disabled husband and all his back pain issues. Too bad the pillows are tiny and soggy. We would have needed to pile 10-12 pillows to get enough back support to watch TV in bed, so we used sofa pillows, which were slightly more effective.
I would have given the resort 5 stars, but we had some issues with noisy neighbors because the units are not as soundproof as they might be. We could hear doors slamming below us, and chatter when people got too loud. Fortunately, they did quiet down around 11 PM so we never had to formally complain about the noise. I also saw some exposed rusty rebar in a place where someone could have been seriously injured if they caught their foot on it, but the employees I mentioned this to didn't care because they were only interested in selling us a timeshare deed.
All in all, this was one of our best vacations in Galveston and we highly recommend staying here if you want to get away from the crush of traffic but be close enough to enjoy all that Galveston has to offer.
