When researching places to stay before our cruise, this seemed too good to be true. The price was great and though a block from the beach, there were King rooms with views, so we booked one on Expedia. I was a bit skeptical when we drove up, as there were signs that perhaps upkeep wasn't a priority, but dismissed them. The desk clerk was pleasant. We got our room Keys and went to the room.
The room is clean, however there are stains on the carpet, dents in the refrigerator door, scribble marks in the hotel information book, damaged lampshades, wrinkled dog-eared cards advising how to get clean sheets, etc. There is a window, but the room is fairly dark. There is a single wood door to the very small balcony. The view is of the parking lot and the motel on the other side of the parking lot - nothing else is visible at all. When I asked if I could have one of the rooms with a view, since that is what i booked, the front desk clerk advised me that although they have one available (and the price is less than what I paid for this room), I can't have it because I booked through Expedia. She further advised me that in Galveston, a view simply means that you can see outside. The elevator was not working when we arrived, but they did get it fixed by the time we returned from supper. They had fresh cookies in the lobby for a while. When asked about where we could obtain a map and information about Galveston, they didn't have anything available except a cartoon map of part of the island that I could buy for $3.49.
If you're just looking for a place to lay your head for the night, this is probably OK, but otherwise I would not recommend it. They do have free parking while you are on the cruise, which is a nice bonus. We will find a different place to stay after the cruise.
Room Tip: Be specific. Ask for an upper room with a view of the water not on the parking lot side!
