We stayed at the Holiday Inn SunSpree pre-cruise with a stay and cruise parking package on November 3, 2012. The hotel was great! It's an older hotel, but has been nicely refurbished. The rooms were very clean. The rooms have a refrigerator and all have balconies facing Galveston beach. Our 3rd floor room even had a nice view of Pleasure Pier, about a mile down from the hotel. There's a very nice pool all rooms overlook, and the hotel's bar is on the other side of the pool.
Debbie with the hotel's guest services was very friendly and helpful. I would also like to give a shout out to Darrell (spelling?), the hotel's shuttle service driver, whose customer service went above and beyond! He transported us to the cruise ship terminal in a very timely manner during a super busy weekend (The Lonestar bike rally was in full swing, and there were thousands of bikers all over the island attending different events). When we returned from our cruise, we called the hotel and Darrell picked us up at the designated location in front of the terminal within minutes. We were back to the hotel, and in our truck headed home by 9:15 AM. Thanks so much Darrell, we really appreciate your great customer service!
Two quick things the SunSpree may want to address. 1) We had breakfast the morning of our cruise in the hotel's restaurant. It was absolutely sweltering inside. Having some air conditioning would encourage more guests to eat in there. 2) Change the door knobs to the guest room balcony doors and install flip lock deadbolts. The current push button locks on the door knobs can cause the guest to accidentally lock him/herself out on the balcony. We almost had that happen.
All in all, we had an excellent stay, and hope to be able to visit the Holiday Inn SunSpree again next year! Next time we WILL stay more than one night! Thanks again, Debbie and Darrell!
