“Pretty Nice Stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014

We stayed here from Thursday 8/7 until Saturday 8/9. Really enjoyed it. Here are my pros and cons:

Pros:

Very friendly staff (everyone who worked there said hello). We got there at noon and tried to check in early and they said they would call us when the room was ready. They didn't call until almost 4....but they were totally booked so I can understand that I guess. Great location. On the West end which is away from the traffic along the seawall. And beach access was GREAT. We loved not having to cross the street. Pool was great. Because of it's location, it's totally shaded in the mornings and evenings - which is perfect if you're sunburn! And you can see the ocean from the pool, which was pretty nice. LOTS of chairs and tables, we never had a problem getting one even though the hotel was booked solid. Very family friendly. Pretty much everyone there had children, so there were no drunk college kids or any other riff-raff.

Cons:

We were very disappointed in our "gulf view" we were promised. We were in W22B (I think) which seemed like one of the smallest rooms on site and the balcony (which was barely big enough to fit 2 people) was in the corner to where we couldn't see the ocean unless we leaned over the rail. We planned on enjoying the balcony and the "gulf view" while our kids napped during the day....but that didn't happen. The balcony was so cramped we just stayed inside the room. Also, the 10am check out time seems pretty early when check in time isn't until 4pm.

Other Comments:

Read a lot about the long wait for the elevator but didn't really experience that at all. No mosquitoes either. Also read a lot about the pool being loud. We were on the 2nd floor and even when the pool was totally crowded, we couldn't hear it at all from our room.

Would We Stay Again:

Probably, but we would definitely book way ahead of time in order to get a bigger room/balcony. Maybe that was my fault for booking a room for 2 even though we had 2 toddlers. I wouldn't want to stay in that particular room again.

Room Tip: Not all rooms have the "gulf view" they promise. Book ahead of time and request a room on...

We spent our second visit last weekend for our 20th anniversary. We once again enjoyed our stay very much. The pool water is wonderfully clean without any Chlorine aroma. We could not ask any more from the staff. (I am unsure what more staff was needed for - ie earlier review.) The bed was comfortable, the linens, towels, etc were plentiful for the two of us. Okay maybe they could buy few more carts but only if the entire hotel emptied at the last minute would it slow it down alot. We left between 9 and 10 and had No Problem. The only suggestions would be maybe a welcome basket which includes small assortment of cooking basics (cooking spray, butter, etc) and that the outdoor grills themselves could be updated/enlarged with bit more outdoor picnic furniture.

Room Tip: I always enjoy the upper floors and rooms on outer side still have balcony which has a beach view, a...

My extended family rented five separate one bedroom units on the east wing. The rooms are fantastic. Not super spacious but it was just myself and my daughter in my room. Kitchen had everything you'd need. Washer and dryer were right outside the unit and detergent was provided. Game room downstairs has air hockey and foosball, not to mention a Wii, craft activities, free movie and book rentals and fresh popcorn. We enjoyed our breakfast poolside every morning. There's a little boardwalk down to the beach outside the pool area. Also picnic tables and charcoal grills. Proximity to restaurants is decent but far enough from seawall traffic and riffraff. Only a few (very minor) cons to mention. The elevator is painfully slow and you always have to wait. The wifi was unreliable...but free! Finally, all rooms are two neighboring units behind a single exterior door with shared laundry. I could hear every word my neighbors said when they passed through the exterior door to get to their room. Also could hear them doing their laundry very clearly. Minor grievances...would certainly stay here again.

We stayed at this location from Tuesday the 5th until Friday the 8th. I was very happily surprised at the view that our one bedroom villa had! We had plenty of space between myself, my wife, our infant son, and his grandmother had. Every staff member of the hotel I encountered was friendly and provided us with plenty of information and was pleasant. The most memorable experience with our stay regarding their drive to help was on the day of checkout when that morning a water main broke. This caused an extreme loss of water pressure to our room. I spoke to the front desk and they offered to move us to a unit that had an adequate showering facility. The only issue was with the sargassum but the hotel doesn't control sargassum season along the coast. I feel as if whoever contracts with the hotel and the city of Galveston could've moved the sargassum from the immediate shoreline further back as it accumulated though. Overall, I do plan to return to Galveston and unless anything else becomes a more attractive option, I do plan to stay here again.

Room Tip: The one bedroom standalone units on the endcaps will provide the best views of the gulf without havi...

This Holiday Inn is the hotel type - no free breakfast like their Express Inns. On-site restaurant available, but understaffed. Clean room, comfortable bed, flat screen TV, and a good working a/c. Hotel has been upgraded, but shows some wear and tear. Staff was very helpful (see below), and friendly. Took some clothes to the laundry room at about 10:30 pm, only to find it locked. Staff came by and opened it up for us quickly. Hotel attracts a lot of families with children particularly during vacation dates, so if you desire a place with a minimum of kid disruptions (like run the elevators up and down for fun) you might want to consider something off the beach. All in all, an OK (average) couple of nights.

Room Tip: Suggest lower floor due to elevator activity.

This resort exceeded our expectations in every way. The location was great and beach access was great for us. Everything was clean, and the rooms had a nice layout. The pool was great, and most of the parking spaces were nice and wide. We stayed on the 4th floor, and did hear the person staying above us decide to move furniture around every night at 11pm for an unknown reason, but our kids were so worn out from playing it didn't seem to wake them up and was not the resorts fault. On the last night it wasn't as windy, and the mosquitos were pretty bad so make sure and bring bug spray. The beach was much cleaner then I expected, and we saw 3 tractors going up and down the beach front cleaning it on our last night. The elevators can get backed up during rush ours (10am morning checkout / 4pm checkin), but you just have to exercise some patience and it's not that big of a deal.

Room Tip: High floors are good, and I'd try to get a room NOT facing the pool. Several guests didn't...
