“Being on the beach is the best.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

We had a very nice and relaxing stay here. The room was perfect. Loved having the kitchen and we did use it. They had just about everything we needed. Kroger and Walmart are less than 2 miles away. The staff was very friendly. The pool was refreshing and the walk to the beach was a short walk down the walkway.

Just know that they hardest thing was the elevator. Each side only has one. Since the hotel is elevated for sea level, you have to first get on the elevator to ride to the office on the second floor. The stairs are locked on the ground level for security for obvious reasons. So the most inconvenient thing was the elevator. I took the stairs most the time and that was a good workout from the 5th floor.

There was only cleaning service if you requested it. Which is what I like since I am very about privacy and do not like people coming in and out of my room unless i need something. The staff was very friendly.

Not the hotels doing and mother nature is out of their control but they do seem to have a sea weed problem this time of year. Walking thru 2 feet high sea weed was not fun and it would have been nice if the hotel did come down and clear some paths for people to use the beach. But like I said, it's not their fault but yet they really didn't have anyone down there doing anything to make the visit to the beach better. Of course, it's possible the beach is not their property so that may be why they do nothing to clear off the seaweed in their stretch of the beach. Before making your vacation plans, see if there is any sea weed issues the time of year you go. The smell was not all that pleasant.

Room Tip: We had a one bedroom with fold out sofa sleeper. It appears to be the 2nd largest of the rooms from...

This was our second time at this hotel. Last year we stay at this place and loved it. We also loved Galveston. The hotel was the same as last year. Everything inside was great. The seaweed at the beach was terrible. The seaweed was a huge long hill from one end of the Island to the other. The seaweed was almost 4 feet tall. Sometimes the town would plow it in huge plies. However, they would not take it away. Eventually the seaweed would start to smell bad. When we went any where on the seawall, the smell of seaweed was terrible. My husband and girls went in the gulf and came out covered in seaweed. If you want to go to Galveston this summer skip the beach. The Island should clean up the seaweed and take it away.

We loved this hotel.

Room was great we had a one bed king unit on the larger A side overlooking the pool and the Gulf. It had a full kitchen and huge bathroom with separate jacuzzi tub. The pool could have been cleaner, the surrounding patio was dirty and had green algae puddles on it that needed scrubbing off. The pool had lots of sand and bits in it that the pool cleaning guy never quite got rid of. They also need to enforce the rule on no kids in the pool area without out adults. It is not enough to occasionally shout at your kids from your balcony you should be down there with them.....family vacation??
The beach is not great in June/July because they get the sea weed, which is 12 inches deep for the first 15ft from the water, every year was in from the Bermuda Triangle. They tell you they have people out to clear it three times a week but it didn't make any difference it just came back. Also very difficult to clear it when people are sitting on it and don't move. Location to Jimmy's the first nice place to eat was a 10min drive, the main pleasure pier was about 20-25mins drive.
You share a washer and dryer with the B unit which for us was a pain as the people in B just left there stuff in there all the time.
We would definitely return as we sat in a quiet part of the pool area and did not bother with the beach. The staff on reception were lovely and very helpful.

We made last minute plans to go to Galveston for the holiday weekend and although the rest of the trip was a little disappointing the hotel far exceeded our expectations. We had a king villa and the size and amenities were perfect for our family of 3. Although the hotel was sold out and it was busy it didn't feel overly packed and everyone was very friendly. We may not come back here if it was just my husband and myself, due to the distance from the action on the Seawall, but traveling with our son, this hotel, with the closeness to the beach, the large fully equipped room and awesome pool, was perfect. Highly recommend for families.

Very nice accommodations. This hotel is located toward the western side of the island but not too far from the main drag of the seawall. The hotel is on the beachfront so you can walk right out onto the beach without having to cross the street. We had a 1-bedroom suite that was very nice. To enter the room there was a common entry door for 2 suites and in that little entry area was a washer/dryer. This hotel does not have maid service which was fine for us, even preferred. The room had plenty of wash cloths, towels and beach towels and we loved being able to wash our clothing and didn't mind washing our towels ourselves. There was laundry soap powder in the room. Near the elevator was a door with access to a trash chute. The suite had a living room that connected to a full kitchen (including conventional oven). The kitchen included coffee maker, toaster, blender, dishes, mixing bowls, utensils and pots and pans. We saved quite a bit in being able to prepare breakfast and lunch in the room. The bedroom and living room had patio doors to access the balcony that overlooked the pool and a nice view of the beachfront. The bathroom was on the larger side and had a nice sized shower and a Jacuzzi bathtub. The hotel has free wifi and ample free parking. We typically stay at the San Luis when we visit Galveston but this suite was less expensive and being right on the beachfront made it a little better.

The front desk staff was super friendly and accommodating.

Much nicer than the other Holiday Inn place up the road. This one is kind of isolated, and on the beach side of the road. In other words you don't have to cross the busy road to get from the hotel to the beach. Just walk down the boardwalk. Nice rooms. Good views. The one BIG complaint is place is overwhelmed with mosquitos. There is no way that management is spraying or taking this seriously because the sheer volume of mosquitos is so absurd that we had to cover ourselves in deet to just leave the room. The halls, elevators and parking lot were jam packed with hordes of mosquitos waiting to attack. We could not use the balcony and did not dare hang out by the pool. People standing in lines for the elevators spent their time swatting and scratching and cursing. It was really over the top. Mosquitos are expected in Galveston but this was completely beyond the pale and unacceptable. They need to spray. Also, free room maid service is once every TEN days. Otherwise, you're on your own for towels, etc. Do your own laundry is required.

Room Tip: Some rooms have tiny, almost unusable balconies.. Might want to clarify if your room has tiny balcon...

We booked this last minute as other places were booked and am I glad! The staff in the front office was incredibly nice, just as the cleaning and fixing crew that you would meet around the premises, amazing warmth and hospitality. Our room wasn't ready when we arrived (we drove from Dallas) but they told us that we could get changed into our swimming trunks and use the pool right away. We opted to go out for a late lunch instead and our room was ready at around 3:30pm. You give them your cell and they call you when the first room is avail (I believe based on arrival time), which is very convenient.

The room was great, it was very clean. The kitchen was equipped with everything that you may need, including paper towels, dish and dishwasher detergent (yes, there is dishwasher!), colander, pots and pans, dishes, glasses, silverware, you name it! We had a deluxe 1bd, which was impeccable. There is also a washing/drying machine shared with another room, which was great for drying wet towels. The bathroom was huge, with a huge tub and a nice separate shower. It's actually a little apartment, and though it is cozy (once we opened the sleeper sofa there was not much room in the living room/dining room), but again, sufficient for a family of 4. I traveled with my husband and 2 kids (5 and 2 years old).

The pool was nice, maybe slightly small for the amount of ppl (the hotel was almost full), and sometimes at peak times it was hard to find any chairs. The pool had a hot tub and an area very shallow for kids. The beach was a 1mn walk down a boardwalk.

Nothing to do with the hotel, but the beach has lots and lots of seaweed. The beach is mostly clean so you can walk around, but between the beach and the water, there is about 5yards of a mountain of seaweed (knee high) that you have to walk through. Don't forget your water shoes, though you can easily buy some in town. Then there is another 3yards of seaweed in the water until you finally get to clean sea. I didn't know/expect this much seaweed, I knew there would be some, but never seen so much. In the central parts of town (by 61st), you can barely even go on the beach as it is completely covered with seaweed. The advantage of the Holiday Inn Club Vacation is that the location where it is at has a very wide and deep beach, so you can still enjoy the beach (especially with the kiddos).

One unexpected surprise. The hotel had all these kid activities that were great. They had a room full of board games and toys and 2 shelves of DVDs that you could borrow (all rooms have DVD players). At 7pm every night they would show a movie and provide popcorn. The kids' activities included painting a piggy bank or a tote bag, etc (from $2 to $4).

Note that there is no restaurant on the premises, nor cleaning of your room (unless you request and pay for it). It's about 5-7mn drive to town (big Walmart there among other stores), there is a mini golf about 3mn away which was great for the kids. The Pleasure Pier is also nice to visit at sundown/evenings.

Room Tip: The building is in a U shape so all rooms have a decent view of the ocean. We were in 37A on the Eas...
