“Overpriced and Overcooked”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

We chose to have dinner here because it looked nice as we were driving by and we had been to one in Miami that was pretty good. This place was practically empty on a Friday night which should have been a heads up. We ordered crab legs which were seriously overcooked. Servings were small although the pictures on the menu make them look well served.

“Delicious soups, appetizers and fish”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2012

We sat out on the veranda. The view of the Galveston ship channel was right beside us. We watched pelicans and blue herons search for fish. The staff were friendly and each one seemed to check on us throughout our meal. All the food ordered by our group was really tasty.

“Food was BAD & SMALL”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2012 via mobile

The service was great and the restaurant was clean and neat. The only down fall was everything was WAY overpriced and the portions were little. The pots of boiled food would have been fine if they hadn't been $45 a piece and with like 2 crabs and 5 shrimp it was ridiculous. Then the crab cakes are bad an like $10.

“A franchise with a good attitude”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

Ok, Joe's is a chain. But we were surprised by the positive, even cheery attitude of the waitstaff. Every time we go in, at least half of the staff are new (to us), but they're always upbeat. The food is reliably very good. It's not Gaidos, but it's not supposed to be. When there's a good crowd, the dancing in the aisles is fun. Obviously, we go back.

“Not the best on the island”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

Joe’s Crab Shack is located next door to the Brick House Tavern and when you enter you will swear the two buildings are almost identical. Both sport bare concrete floors. We entered at roughly 2PM on a Sunday and almost had the entire place to ourselves as there were very few customers. Prices are rather high and we looked for something on the inexpensive side as we were eating a late lunch or early dinner. Ordered the shrimp and fries for $13.19 each. The shrimp are a little less than medium size however they were fresh and tasty. The batter could have contained a little more spices. Fries were good. Served with cold slaw which was excellent however only a spoon full in a small paper cup. Never saw such a small serving and in a paper cup---give me a break. Service was very good however it should have been considering the number of customers in the establishment. This is definitely a chain operation and it shows as meals are mass produced without any personal care. No doubt the kitchen personnel are just cooking whatever has been purchased for them. In our case the shrimp should have been large and really really fresh
