The hotel is on the quieter end of Galveston which is nice. The "beach" that is across the street is not beach at all. It is all giant rocks. You have to drive down the seawall to get to actual beach.
We've stayed at many Marriott hotels but this one was a disappointment. The front desk staff at check-in was friendly enough, but definitely not pleasant. Check-in is at 4pm, but when we arrived, we were told that one of our rooms was not yet ready but we would be called as soon as it became available. We waited for almost an hour and a half before WE called to see if our room was ready yet. It was... I have a feeling it had been ready for a while.
The next staff we encountered were 3 of the housekeeping staff. They were not friendly... At all. No smiles, no hellos, nothing. They would hardly even move for us to walk down the hall.
Our room was clean and the linens and towels were crisp and white. However, about half of the complimentary items were missing (dish washing liquid, dishwasher detergent, etc...) were missing. We had to go and get those items ourselves from housekeeping.
Breakfast was mostly cereal and bagels. It left a lot to be desired, seeing as how most Marriott hotels offer hot breakfast. The breakfast area is so small that guests are falling over each other trying to get breakfast. Not the best way to start a morning.
Our room was not cleaned, only the trash was thrown out and the sheets straightened. The beds were not made... Just straightened.
The pool area (which is shared by the adjoining Courtyard by Marriott) is nice, but a large part of it is cabanas that they rent for $100/ day. There is a bar, changing room, and pool towels are readily available.
Overall, our stay was comfortable, but definitely not what I've come to expect of the Marriott brand. We will not be returning.
