A little ambience is nice when going out to dinner...the noise level was deafening..we had to scream to communicate... and the food was nothing special...won't go back.

We just lucked into this place on our first trip to Galveston this past weekend (8/8/08). We lucked into a table (barely) without a reservation, and settled in with our two daughters (2 & 5 years old) in a comfortable corner booth. The waiter could not have been more accommodating, even suggesting deviations from the menu that might be more appropriate for our girls. The menu is the biggest problem because there are so many fabulous choices. After starting off with some gumbo and fresh salad, I had the Mardi Gras Pasta which was succulent and fresh. A hint of tarragon in the sauce was a pleasant surprise. My wife had a beautiful filet of tuna that was cooked perfectly and the kids split the baked chicken, which they loved. The service was spectacular and the room is lovely. Compared to Gaydos, which we regrettably patronized the following evening... well, there is no comparison. Spend your money at Saltwater and skip the misery and poor food at Gaydos.

Upon reading reviews I picked a couple restaurants to visit while in Galveston. We were very pleased with Saltwater Grill. I called to make reservations as I didn't know if on 4th of July if they may be very busy. It was myself, husband, and 2 kids -ages 19 and 15. They gave us a huge horseshoe booth and Kevin was a great waiter. We had spinach apple vinegar salad - was good but not like Three Forks in Dallas - My husband and I had the gumbo. I was going to order the Daddy's portion - Thank god, Kevin told me not too as I didn't even finish the smaller portion. It was great though. My husband and son had steaks and they were good also. Had the house Cabernet and it was good too. My daughter ordered the salmon pasta it was good but probably would get something different next time. Great experience!

Very good for seafood joint.
