Everthing was ok. Unlike other reviews, I thought it was very clean. It needed some minor repairs here and there. It had unusual smells and humidity. The staff wasn't rude, but didn't seem to put any effort into friendliness. Not especially good or bad.

Check in staff was super nice when we got there at 1130pm. Rooms were good size. step out balcony with view of gulf ( if you looked to the left).
Morning buffet is nothing to brag about. Ran out of waffle mix about 30 min prior to ending time. One guest walking around the food area barefoot and several in pajamas ( gross!!) at breakfast. Not enough seats. We didn't even bother the next morning.
However, we quickly realized that there are no restaurants close by. So we had to drive to the east side of sea wall to find breakfast.
Choose hotel due to close proximity of moody gardens (supposed to be less than a mile). There was a ton of road construction, several roads closed and detours make us go WAY out of way. Not the hotels fault, but had I known we would have choose somewhere closer to restaurants for same price.

I didn't think the hotel could be as bad as the reviews that were posted because I thought that La Quinta would not allow a franchisee to be this awful. I was wrong. Our room was not ready at 3:15 when we arrived and the desk clerk was not the least bit concerned. To be fair, I think they are so understaffed that only the employees with the thickest skin have survived. We were 5th in line that was told we would not be able to check in and no one could estimate how long it would be. We finally got into our room at 5:00. It was not clean. Hair in the sink and left over, used dental floss on the bathroom shelf. YIKES. The shuttle to the cruise ship was an exercise in stress. Line up at 9:30 to get on a list to go whenever the one shuttle van is available to take you. Coming back, we waited one hour for the shuttle to pick us up. This hotel is a mess and management doesn't care. The staff takes the abuse for the terrible conditions. To add fuel to the fire, the rates were too high. If we could have changed hotels, we would have, but by the time we we realized what a mistake we had made it was too late. Luckily for us our cruise was fabulous.
