“Very good food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

We ate inside once and ordered carry out once. Both times the food was way too much for one person and was very good. I recommend this place when visiting Galveston.

“Excellent Value and Excellent Seafood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

Went in on a Sunday afternoon for some oysters on the half shell. They were excellent and a bargain at "happy hour". Also had some of the best civeche that I have ever eaten - very fresh and seasoned perfectly. We even tried a cup of gumbo between us and it was very good. The place was small and quaint and had an excellent and friendly staff. Wish I would have had the room to try the muffaletta! I would recommend it to anyone.

“Nice Place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

The place was packed, noisey during prime time. The food was good. We sat at the bar the bartender was a one man show helping all the servers and trying to do her job. Probably won't go back.

“Not a good day for the Black Pearl”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

Went in about 1:30 in the afternoon. We ordered large gumbo and shrimp salad. The food was ok, not great. It took an hour to receive or food. Very disappointed!

“We had a fantastic lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

My wife and I ate lunch at The Black Pearl. It was recommended by a friend. We really enjoyed it.
I ordered a bowl of gumbo. That was a mistake (sort of). The bowl is large enough to feed 4 people. The cup would have been large enough for both of us to share. It was a seafood sausage gumbo. It was seasoned just right for our taste and was excellent.
I ordered the oyster Po-boy. Even though this is not oyster season, the oysters were very good. They serve you twice as many as actually fit on the sandwich. As a side dish, I ordered the fried okra.
My wife ordered the shrimp Po-boy. Her sandwich actually had 3 times the amount of shrimp that would fit on the sandwich. She also ordered the fried okra.
Both sandwiches were very good and we could not eat them all. We need up taking home shrimp, oysters, and okra.
The restaurant is located about 2 blocks from The Strand, so it has a convenient location. It is not large so it is best to avoid peak times if you don’t like to wait. We waited about 10-15 minutes for our table. The staff is friendly and attentive.
They serve a New Orleans style Muffaletta sandwich which we are anxious to try. We will definitely return!!
