This is a fishing pier no frills, if you don't fish there is a small fee to sit up stairs and take in the amazing views of Galveston. Snacks are available for purchase. My visit was to fish, you can rent everything you need poles, bait, ect. You will need a fishing license which can be purchased at the local sporting goods store just down the block. So to start fishing I was into this for around $30. Once I walked out to the end of the pier you could tell that this place attracts serious fishers. I picked a spot on the rail baited up and tried my luck. In the short time I was there I could hear that beautiful sound of "Fish On" from all over the pier, huge Bull Drum fish over 25lbs and 33-35in were being lifted over the rail. After a hour of my bait being stripped I thought this was going to be a bust but after all it's fishing. Then it happened while I was day dreaming at the views my pole jerked into the air the real singing as the line was being stripped a sound every fisherman loves to hear I knew this fish was big. After 20 mins of chasing my bite around the rail and my line being stripped out several times this monster with the help of friendly locals was grunted over the rail. There it was a huge clean Bull Drum over 34in's long weighing in close to 30lbs. I have never caught anything like it what a rush. As I released it back to the sea all I could think about was my next visit to pier 61. Hopefully my new friends,my good buddy Steve and the friendly staff will be there.
