“The Great Storm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2014

The theater is nice. The seating is comfortable. You can't bring drinks or food with you. There are no pets allowed. Very informative. A nice way to spend an afternoon!

“Interesting perspective on Galveston History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2014

watched the two movies about the 1910 hurricane and Lafitte the Pirate.
It's not Oscar worthy, but it's a good overview of the history of Galveston, and it supports the historical society -- so why not?

The young man at the desk was extremely helpful and service oriented.

“Watch the History Channel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2014

The show was not very well done IMHO. I have seen the episode that A&E, or Discovery or one of those networks did on the Galveston storm and it was waaayyy better. Everything you see on the screen is still photos. Even if they had tied the still photography to the way the town looks today it would have had more meaning.
The show on Jean Lafayette was done with actors but was a really small portion of the man's life. Again, had they tried to tie in the original information about the town he founded Campeche, with the fact that the remains of Maison Rouge, the is foundation, located at 1417 Harborside Drive near the Galveston wharf. I didn't find this out until later, at it is not mentioned anywhere in the theater or the film.
$10.00 to sit and watch the to shows which total maybe 30 min. is way to steep a price for what you get.

“Storm film lacking, disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2013

The theatre itself is easy to find and you can park for free (ticket will be validated), comfortable theatre style seating, friendly staff, & nice little gift shop. However, for it to have been the largest natural disaster in US history, the film was just not that impressive. There were good facts shared and a few pictures post-storm that stood out, but the style and production just simply was lacking in presentation. It really needs some new professional help to make a must see film in the very city this event occurred in!
