“Best place to stay in Galveston”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2006

I have been to Galveston many times in the past but have stayed away a few years due to the water conditions, dirty and many jellyfish. Decided to give it a try since the town is fun and has a lot to do regardless of the water. The Seascape is one of the few, if not the only, condos directly on the beach/ocean. We stayed in #1215. It was a one bedroom. Small but very comfortable and a great view of the pool area and beach. A little noisy during the day but it was worth the view. Heated pool is large. Hot tub a bit small. There is a wading pool for kids. Very friendly staff but a bit slow at getting items you need. Condo in great condition. Would stay in #1215 again. Easy to get to the ocean. Security around the clock. Enjoyed our 4 night stay. We had 5 people in a one bedroom. Would not want anymore then that. Beach was clean but there were still jellyfish and the ocean was cold so we spent more time at the pool. Would stay here again. Usually prefer a private beach home but it is nice to have the pool. So much to do in Galveston. Go to Moody Gardens, the Strand, Greyhound dog races, good Italian food at Marios on the Seawall. See a play at the Strand Theatre. Get fresh seafood to cook for yourselves at the harbor piers. Fish all night long on the fishing pier. Rent bikes, etc. It is a fun town. Have fun.

My wife and I just returned from a 4 day stay at Seascapes, after having done a cruise. The big plus is having its own beach and not having to cross the busy 4 lanes of Seawall boulevard, which almost every other condo, motel, or hotel requires. I picked out our one-bedroom on-line, based on the view. Turns out it was a "standard room", which means it had not been updated, and was tired and worn, which is why I could not rate Seascapes a 5. However, we found out that many rooms have been updated and renovated as has been previously noted on this board, so be sure to ask for an "upgrade". We looked at some the last day, and there was quite a difference. Our carpeting was worn, had some spots, and did not seem real clean, and the kitchen was not well-equippeed. The room next to ours (an upgrade) had a new tile floor, new appliances, new cupboards, etc. It costs more, but would be worth it, especially if you are staying more than 2 or 3 days.

Seascape is actually on the beach so you don't have to cross the seawall blvd to fight over a spot with all the other condo/hotel renters. There is plenty of room, great pool, hot tub, and even a nice bar b que area with several pits and tables.

We looked at several condos and settled on 2316 which is on the third floor facing east, has been remodeled, new furniture, Tvs, dvd/vcr players, and a great video library. It was very kid friendly and the owners had really set it up with a lot of great little extras such as wall mounted hair dryer, new dishes, and even decent wine glasses!

We've already reserved the same room for spring break and can't wait to get back

We stayed at SeaScape for a week in early October, and were very satisfied with the premises. Especially our condo, unit #2213 was recently remodeled(totally), and had 2 baths w/large walk in shower, granite counter tops throughout, leather couch, and a wide open view from entrance to the water. It even had internet access!
It is important to select the right condo for your stay as they are all independantly owned and have varying amounts of $$$ spent on upkeep. Personally, we like tile floors over carpet (cleaner), and leather sofa's tend to be cleaner. Beach, pool, and hot tub were nicely maintained and there were some quaint restaurants and bars nearby (important for any committed vacation). Good luck on your visit!!

After the mixed bag of reviews we decided to try Seascape for 5 days. Our primary prerequisite was to be ON the beach. Unfortunately, Galveston has few places to offer for that. After seeing many people precariously crossing the busy Seawall Blvd. to get to the sliver of a beach there we are glad we did. There is much more sense of being away from the town at Seascape yet still being very convenient. The seaweed buildup is bad as mentioned in some lines. Since those reports though, they are out every morning with a tractor and front end loader cleaning it up for the day- so it was not much of an issue at all. Our room (#2220) had no negative issues whatsoever. We also found covered parking even later at night so they must be doing a better job managing that too. I recommend taking the time to read the reviews that mention specific rooms and note the numbers as to which ones you might want to consider or definitely X off. You can view pictures of the rooms on their site too which can give a little insight into the particular condition, style, and ammenities of each condo. Take the rooms facing outward if you want more privacy and quietness. Choose those facing the pool if you want to watch the kids or have view of any of the action there. Rooms facing to the east (left to the water) get great sunrises over the water. Sunsets are nothing special toward the mainland. Seascape would be a much better choice than the Seawall options for those with kids IMO. Overall, it is not plush but it is one of the better values you can find if easy beach access is a priority for you. I would just as soon go down the interstate than deal with the separation from the beach and the heavy traffic of Seawall Blvd.

We just returned from Seascape this weekend. Please dont waste your money atleast not in Room 2207. This unit was way below standards. The tub drain was full of hair and debris it would not even drain. The mattress was a joke it look 50 years old. The room stated dvd and cable we had neither...... Just a dirty room not fit for anyone carpet was soooo dirty we did not want to even stand on it. My son cried all night because he did not want to sleep there. We did not even stay the second night and they did not give a refund..YOU would think spending over 200.00 per night you would have good conditions......THINK AGAIN

We just got back from a 2 night stay at the Seascape in room #2208.

The ROOM was almost perfect. The beds were very comfortable, everything worked and the AC was nice and cold. The room was upgraded plus and I don't think I would want to go down a level. The decor was very nice and beachy. The balcony was great and we had an excellent view of the pool and beach. We enjoyed having breakfast in the room and then being able to go out for the day. The only problem with the room was the bright light coming in the bedroom window from the outside. There were no curtains and the light is right outside the window. No big deal, the next night I hung up a towel and it was fine.

The POOL was very nice and large. There is even a smaller kiddie pool. The deck around the pool was huge and there were always plenty of chairs and tables. In the evening the pool can get a little noisy. If you slept on the pull out couch in the living area it might bother you, but at 11 p.m. the pool was locked down. There was also a staff member at the pool in the evening making sure there were no problems.

The BEACH was probably the cleanest I've seen it in years. It was just a short walk and we were ready to play. I was so glad not to deal with crossing the street. There was some seaweed, but not piled up like its been before. I didn't see any trash and for a Saturday, the area was not very crowded. Especially compared to the seawall in town! The RV park next door even has umbrellas and chairs set up for rentals. They were $20 for the day.

Overall, the only thing keeping this from being an EXCELLENT rating was the outside light (which I know is for safety) and the noise in the bedroom from the outside. We're already planning our next trip. Although we really liked this unit, we might try a 2 bedroom next time.
