“Great new years getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

The staff was very frendly, room was nice and clean with a great view. Well worth the money. great hotel. Pool was heated in the winter. Room was clean and bellmen prompt. They gave me my request for a high floor and also the room type I was looking for. Nice and quiet even on new years eve.

We stayed at the Hilton on Galveston Island over the Christmas Holidays while visiting family. The Service was excellent and the room was perfert during our stay. We were not there much during the day but upon our return every night the room was clean, ice in the bucket and a sweet late night snack on the pillow.

We were on the 10th floor of the "new" tower with 2 rooms for 4 days. They did not run AC in the hallway and as a result, a lingering smell was always in the hallway. We reported this and nothing was done during our Christmas stay.
The hotel restaurant is small and challenged when busy (cruise ships ready to leave), but the service was decent by all standards and friendly.
Honors members get $8 towards a full buffet breakfast or a complete continental breakfast from the buffet. Sorry, but the coffee was bad!!!

Room Tip: Anywhere but the first floor in main building as it gets all traffic from the tower (larger) buildin...

We had a room on the 2nd floor with a small balcony overlooking the pool and a view of the ocean. Front desk personnel very friendly and helpful. Room was clean with no problems. We stayed one night (December 15) prior to a cruise out of the Galveston Port on Sunday. The Hilton offers a free shuttle to the cruise terminal building, which is a great bonus for cruisers. They also offer free parking at another parking lot, for those that drive for their cruise. Great location. Close to grocery store and other convenience stores and restaurants (Rain Forest is next door). The Pleasure Pier is 2 miles down. I hope to go back some time in the Spring or Summer to take advantage of things to do in the area.

Room Tip: ask for an ocean view with balcony. will cost more, but it's so nice to be able to look out at...

Our room was one with a balcony and the view was an excellent one of the beach overlooking the pool. It was a nice and roomy for a standard room and pretty clean and in decent condition. I would give it 4 stars if not for the smell. The water that fills the toilet smelled like sewer water and gave the entire room a bad smell. I could tell it wasn't just our room because the smell permeated the hallways. You tend to get used to it, but it was awful when we first got there and very offputting. Thankfully, the shower and sink water did not smell like that or we would have gone elsewhere.
We ran into trouble first thing with a mess on the balcony but when we called the front desk to let them know, they immediately moved us to another room just down the hall. Anything we asked for, we got very quickly - extra towel, coffee packets, paper cups - so customer service was great.
I wish the beds were queens instead of doubles, but the beds were comfortable enough and we like that there were lots of pillows.
Since we were there when it was very cold, it was so nice that the shower got good and hot and the water pressure was perfect. The shower head could be updated though, I notice that some holes were clogged.
This hotel is in a very convenient location, quite central to the entire island. Looking for a delicious place to eat? Try Olympia Grill, just up the street (4908 Seawall Blvd.). Wow! The best food and service.
Overall a good stay but something needs to be done about the smell. I can't believe no one else complains about it.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool have the best view.

We had a room on the 7th floor looking out to the ocean as well as the pool. It is December but the kids still went swimming in the pool. And my husband and kids went in the jacuzzi as well. They really enjoyed it. The restaurant in the hotel was expensive as always but had decent food and the service was great AND friendly. The rooms...well...the beds were entirely too small. They really were double beds. I think all hotel rooms need to have queens vs doubles but that is my opinion. They do not have rollaways but they did provide us with an air mattress for my 3rd child. When we needed more towels they were very prompt in their response. The biggest complaint came from husband. When he made the reservation he specifically asked if they had a shuttle service to take us to the Festival of Lights. They acknowledged that they did in fact have a shuttle that would take us anywhere on the island. Upon arrival however, we were informed that the only shuttle service they provide is to the cruise ship terminal. My husband was not happy. But other than the beds and the shuttle, it was very nice.

First, there was mold all over the walls and the ceiling, and mildew in the showers. Bad first impression. Second, when we checked out we packed all of our bags and and placed them on the bed. We leave the room for about ten minutes and when we return, there was a house keeper in the room. She was near the corner of the bed next to my wife's opened purse. She yelled, "House keeping, house keeping!" She then tells us she is there just to check the air conditioner. She looks at the a/c and hurries out past us, saying, "I am a supervisor, housekeeping supervisor." And flashes her badge quickly as she left. Her demeanor was very suspicious. I saw that my wife's purse was open. We checked and one of her credit cards was missing. We turned over the room, just in case we misplaced it. We called the front desk and they sent the M.O.D. She spoke with the house keeping supervisor, who denied anything. She also said that they would conduct their own investigation and that I should contact them to find out the outcome when we returned from our cruise. When we returned, no one knew anything about the situation. We were the "crazy" guests making things up. The next day we get a call, at my request, from the day M.O.D. Who only tells me that they don't know anything about the situation and that my card had not been turned in. And as far as their own "investigation" they don't divulge any of that information with guests. My recomendation is to find another place to stay, where there is not mold all over the walls, and where you are treated with respect.
