Although the hotel is beautiful and the service was great (except in the restaurant) when we made our reservations for a pleasant long weekend with our young children we didn't know we were going to be staying in a haunted hotel.

I have never experienced a "ghost" before this, have never wanted to, and never wish to again, but unfortunately on our first night there that's exactly what happened to me. My husband was not there, I had driven up a day ahead of him since he had to work. After I put my 3 small children to bed and got our bags unpacked I turned out the light and got in bed, no reason to feel any alarm. Then suddenly the speaker button on the room phone turned on and a dial tone filled the room. I immediately felt afraid and turned on the light. After turning the speaker phone off and finally talking myself into turning the lights off again it happened all over again. It wasn't until I actually told "it" to stop and prayed aloud for God's help with the matter that I was finally able to turn off the lights with no hair-raising occurrences following.

The next morning I asked the front desk and they said many people have had similar experiences and it's to be expected in an old hotel. Well Not By Me! When we returned home I did an internet search and learned the wing we stayed in is on the Haunted Galveston tour and the room my sister in law stayed in beside me, room 505, is considered to be the "evil" room in the hotel according to numerous web sites (she did not have any experiences and ridiculed me until we got home and read all the info on the internet).

Unless you are seeking an experience beyond our world I would recommend a different hotel, or at least stay away from the fifth floor!

Don't come here expecting the Four Seasons Nevis and you will have a blast. The pool is fantastic, service is good and it really feels like a getaway. Where else can you get lunch and a beerl poolside for $8? There's a laid-back fun vibe here. Don't bother going to the beach which just isn't pleasant in this part of Galveston. Sunday brunch is a must. Everyone was helpful and friendly. The lobby bar is a fun place to convene late into the night. The room is nothing spectacular but clean and nice enough. Again folks, it's a Wyndham so keep your expectations appropriate and you will be pleased.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel in May of 2006 for a couple of nights. It was a nice stay, no problems, until after we checked out. They charged us for an extra night after we had already left the hotel and we have been unable to get them to reverse the charges. We sent them proof that they overcharged us but I have been stonewalled and ignored by the person who I was told to contact. I will never stay at this hotel again.

My wife and I stayed one night in late October. First Impression was WOW. Outside at night, it was beautiful. The grounds were well kept and in great shape considering a hurricane just shot through there about 3 weeks earlier. The lobby was really pretty too. The room on the other hand was basically old and average. My first thought was, oh no mold allergies. The room was very musty, (go figure it is real old and right be the ocean). The room was small but adequate, the bed was ok, but the pillows were awful. The bathroom was nice and clean and an average size. Plenty of channels on the TV. We had an interesting view of a neighborhood in decline. My wife was still awe struck at the houses, even though they don't look like they have been painted in 40 years. The pool is beautiful, I mean beautiful, I have not seen many pools that nice anywhere. The beach is right across the street, I went out for a morning stroll and really enjoyed that. Did not eat at the hotel, but the dining area looked nice. My advice, come by look at the inside of the hotel, and the pool but stay somewhere else. Too high for what you get.
