“Best brunch in town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

I stayed in this hotel for one night for the Hustle Santa Galveston. The imposing facade caught my eye while driving around. I heard this is the oldest hotel, so forget about revolving or automatic doors. When it gets very crowded and there is no door attendant, you have to deal with your luggages and making sure to hold that door for the person behind you or in front of you. There's only two elevators. There is self-parking which is across the stree( right side) when you're facing the ocean. It is safe and you use your key to get access. A pianist and a full bar provides good company as well. The room seems smaller though. This is a Wyndham hotel but I didn't get that Wyndham experience :/. The best part of my stay is the Sunday brunch. Great selections and free champagne.

Room Tip: Request for a room far from the elevator. This is a pet friendly hotel btw.

We hope that you had a great race! We are sorry to hear that our bellman weren't on hand to assist with the doors. We will make sure that the appropriate staff is informed. Despite the issues that you mentioned, we hope that you will stay with us again next year and join us for brunch.

Wonderful hotel, the decor is just like being transported back in time. Great location on the sea front, some restaurants within walking distance which is a plus. Coupe of very minor drawbacks, parking is in a multi-storey lot across the road. It is the hotels lot and room key accessible but you do have to cross the road. Other minor one is the bathrooms. Being such an old hotel, they are pretty small and basic compared to how wonderful the rest of the hotel is, but neither are that bigger deal overall when considering all the other great aspects.

We are thrilled that you had a "just magical" stay at Hotel Galvez & Spa. We are so pleased that you enjoyed the hotel and the location. Please note that guests also have the option of valet parking rather than self-parking in the lot across the street. We hope to see you again soon.

Beautiful lobby and great curb appeal. Pool area looks nice. Overnight front desk not the most friendly. It's a great location in the Gulf and a block from the Pleasure Pier.

When renovations are done this will be the place to be. Right now it's only great if you leave your room from 8am to 8pm while they're using jackhammers and drills to keep you alert. I spent 4 days in Houston and 4 days here expecting my houston portion would be fast paced and my Galvez portion would be relaxing. It was the opposite. Royal Sonesta in Houston (which was also under construction) insulated guests from the disruptions. At the Galvez it's front and center.

Try to get a high floor with Gulf view... Maybe that'll help a little.

Please accept our sincere apologies regarding the noise from the construction on our rear entrance. The good news is that we are done with the jackhammers and work is underway to improve the restaurant entrance located on Bernardo de Galvez Avenue. While we still encourage hotel guests to use our grand entrance on the beachfront, this rear entrance is convenient for our Galvez Bar & Grill customers who opt to self park in the adjacent lot.

My sister and I spent a night at the Hotel Galvez before New Years Eve to have a mini spa getaway. The architecture of the hotel is perhaps the most striking of all the hotels in Galveston. The hotel has an open feel with many areas to sit and relax in the lobby.

We paid for a city view room, but got a partial ocean view room, which was a nice surprise. The room is well decorated with some signs of wear and tear, but it doesn't take away from the charm. The lights in the room can be controlled by one box with buttons to turn all the lights on or off or just to turn on the reading lights in the room. There wasn’t a chest of drawers in our room though, so if you like to fold your clothes and put them away, you will either have to hang them all in the closet or be creative with the other nooks and crannies in the room. The room also had a small refrigerator and a safe, which was large enough to put a couple of laptops in. It was also a nice treat to have free Wi-Fi with the room.

As can be expected for a hotel of this age, the elevators are extremely slow. During our stay, one of the elevators was broken so we used the service elevator, which was very prompt and quick whenever we pressed the button, not surprisingly. Also, if you stay on the second floor, there are stairs that you can take to your room. This will bypass the need for the elevators. We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant and it was average. It’s probably better to explore some of the local restaurants in Galveston.

The spa at the hotel is a real gem. There is a relaxation room where you can rest before and after your appointment and it is large enough to fit 12 people, so highly unlikely that you won’t get a space. The spa technicians are amazing and there are numerous body treatments and massages to choose from.
