“Great atmosphere, food, service and music; perfect place to take out of state guests”
My wife and I took some friends from out of state to Hilltop Cafe last night and we all loved it. It's a funky roadhouse 10 miles outside town, owned by Johnny Nicholson, a singer/songwriter whose played with just about everybody - Stevie Ray and Jimmy Vaughn, Clapton, Asleep at the Wheel. Great Cajun food, and he plays blues/jazz piano and guitar. In August he's got Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys from Lafayette coming, with Sam Broussard, who played the lead on Michael Martin Murphy's Wildfire. Incredible. We all had different selections - fried shrimp, shrimp etoufee, steak, and gumbo, and for an appetizer a Greek flaming cheese whose name I can't remember. It was all excellent. The service was good, with a friendly, informed waiter. We'll be going back. It's a great place to take guests.
