“very relaxing change of pace from city bustle”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2014

We stayed in cottage #15. It was a very quiet and peaceful 2 day stay. The room was clean and the personnel were all friendly. Loved the rustic furnishings--the pine log frame bed, the log frame chairs, and table. Especially enjoyed walking on the property and seeing the cows, the deer and the elk. And just nature in general. Still had access to a nice tv, internet, microwave, mini fridge, fireplace, AC and jacuzzi tub. The owner and his wife were both busy caring for the place while we were there. Plus the 4 mile trip in to Fredericksburg is a nice easy drive. We loved the coupons they gave us to the Rathskeller restaurant in the 1800s hospital building. We had an awesome burger and fries there. Look forward to being return guests to the cottages another day.

We stayed in Cottage # 2.
PROS:Great location! Beautiful views. Elk and deer-watching+ star-gazing every night. Excellent service and clean rooms. Consistent in style and decor.
CONS:Located right next to other cottages with little privacy. Cabin lay-out lacks privacy as well: no doors and you have to walk through one of the bedrooms to get to the bathroom.
Overall, this was a great experience and I would stay there again!

Room Tip: Loft-style cabins have separate air-conditioning units but lack privacy

My sister and I were on a driving holiday in Texas and looked for somewhere to stay in Fredericksburg. We found Country Inn and cottages online and booked cottage 27. It was a great choice. We made the mistake of walking from the town to the motel where you check in; quite a distance in the heat. The lovely lady who checked us in immediately provided us with 2 bottles of cold water and gave us an extra $6 breakfast token out of kindness. What exceptional customer service! You can exchange the tokens at one of 5 bakeries and cafes; either for breakfast or any other time. When we arrived at the cottage, about 4 miles out of town in the countryside, we loved it. All rustic and wooden, with elk antler door handles and lamp stands. (Elk wander around the grounds too). There was a great Jacuzzi tub too. The beds were mega comfortable. There were proper cups and glasses too.. All in all a fabulous place.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Country Cottage. We stayed in cottage 22. It was very nice and rustic all in one. The furnishings were very nice. The property is far enough away from the city to be peaceful - but close enough to enjoy the museums, shopping and restaurants. The cottage was clean and comfortable. Contained small refridge & microwave. Nice place to run away from the city for a breathing break. At night time - around 6pm the deer come out along with the cows. Very relaxing. We would go back.

Room Tip: Separate cottages I think are the best!

Great place just 10 minutes outside of town, but definitely in the country. Fireplace was great (and needed as it was cold), but I think they need to check the design - it should draw the smoke out more (without the need to crack the window). Also could have used more in the way of paper products (napkins or a roll of paper towels) and plastic cutlery, and the coffee pot was noisy and slooooow (cabin 29), but all of these things are easily fixable. Each cottage has it's own BBQ and fire pit (would be nice to throw in BBQ tools), central air and heat and nicely appointed baths. Love how they feed the deer and elk and promote the wildlife. For those who need to get away from the city for the weekend, this is the perfect place.

Room Tip: Cottage 29 is the last one on the line and hence, the most private. I think the 2 bedrooms are great...

I loved this place. Cozier than a hotel for sure, but more private than a bed and breakfast, and reasonably priced. Exactly what I was looking for. The fireplace was a great touch, which we took advantage of. It was clean, attractive, loved seeing all the animals and everything, too. The only thing though is I picked this cottage over a standalone cottage (which is what I really wanted) because the only one bedroom standalone cottage left did not have the jacuzzi tub, and this one in the dog trot did. I was really looking forward to that but when it came time to use it, the hot water was gone in like two minutes, and I waited a bit and tried again and waited and tried again and ended up stuck with an almost cool bath and half the time messing with the faucet. :/
