“Good food, great beer and music . . .”
We have visited Fredericksburg several times and enjoy eating German food at the restaurants. On our last visit at the end of January, we arrived late on a Sunday night and found the Silver Creek Saloon open and with live music on the patio. Though it was late, our server was pleasant and helpful. With all the choices of restaurants in the town, we liked this one so much that we returned on Monday night where we found “Blue Monday” blues music being played. These guys were really good. Dogs are allowed in the patio area; the servers even bring water for dogs. Our mini-schnauzer enjoyed the music, too. In fact, when the audience applauded after each song, he politely howled his approval and stopped as if on cue when the applause ended. Other diners were amused, and one videoed him. (We were glad he was not annoying to others.) The food, the pleasant service, and the beer selection are great. On Sunday night, our waiter recommended the catfish, which was fresh and tasty, to me since I was not yet in the mood for German food. My husband ordered the sausage plate on both nights, and on Monday night, I, needing my German food fix by then, ordered the weiner schnitzel, which was very good. The owner, after previously playing with the blues musicians on stage, walked around the restaurant during intermission and talked to diners. Overall, the Silver Creek Saloon is a pleasant stop in Hill Country.
