This place has been a source of legend and fascination since the early oral histories of the Native Americans - they claimed to see spirit lights and hear mysterious noises coming from the granite dome, thus rendering the site its name.
Scientists have explained much of this phenomenon, but what is here is still as enchanting as the name suggests.
From miles away your eye is drawn to the massive granite dome, as you get closer you begin to anticipate your time here, climbing the dome and becoming part of the landscape. The view from the top is amazing as you can see for miles around while also becoming overwhelmed by your immediate surroundings.
The dome area is surrounded by terrific vegetation and wildlife - birds, rabbits, lizards, and flowers abound.
Be careful when climbing the dome - "dome" being the key word. Bring plenty of sun protection and make sure your camera is fully charged.
I grew up in this area and am sad to say I did not come here as I should have when I was younger, but now that I have left and return to visit, I appreciate this magnificent landmark more and more.
