Al, the owner, and his family started La Familia on 7th Street, then moved a block away to a much larger location on Foch, then had to double the size of that location. That should tell you something about the loyal following they have. Al or one of his senior staff will meet you at the door with a handshake and take you to your table. They have 3 daily specials written on butcher paper to the right of the entrance. Don't be late to order one because when the bell is rung, one of them is gone. All the food is made fresh daily. The salsa is full of fresh veggies and just the right heat. Each order comes with a choice of bean or spicy chicken vegetable soup (which is the best cure for a cold or sinus troubles in the world) as well as a plate of Al's special jalapeno peppers. Wide variety of dishes. The fajitas are served on heavy (very hot!) metal platters and then set on fire with alcohol at your table to give them the final sizzle. My favorite is the fried fish tacos with the raspberry sauce. The ambiance is wonderful with Texana and family pictures going back 5 generations in south Texas adorning all the walls. They also have a full bar in the new addition to the restaurant. My business partners and I eat here pretty much once a week and have been since they opened on 7th many years ago. Closed on Sunday and Monday. Highly recommended!
