“Great American Art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

This museum is has a vast collection of great American art including Remington and Russell. In addition, there is a fair collection of art by Calder, O’Keefe, and Homer. At the time of our visit we saw a fascinating exhibit titled Marie Cosinda: Instant Color which included photographs taken with the original Polaroid camera. This is worth a visit when you are in Fort Worth.

“Mecca for Western Art Lovers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

The Amon Carter is a great place to visit if you like Western Art. There are many memorable paintings, bronze statues and other art pieces by masters of Western art. Even if you aren't the art museum type, you'll enjoy this museum.
Tip; you can take photos if you get permission and promise not to use your flash.

“Russell, Remington, O'Keefe and more!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

Part of the unexpected treat of visiting this museum was to find that Western Art is so much more than paintings and bronzes of cowboys and Native Americans. We took a docent-led tour that simply opened our eyes to works of srt we had earlier dismissed as pure romanticism. Russell's and Remington's works were compared an contrasted, and we were able to travel through time from the east coast as American expansion pushed west via paitings. To say we were impressed is to put it lightly. The museum has perhaps 8 Georgia O'Keefe paintings, lots of bronzes showing how repeated castings blur details, drawers full of Remington letters decorated with quick sketches, as well as numerous artists from the 19th - 20th centuries. We spent around 2 hours here, looking at works which we might have never seen or wanted to see before.

Parking is free and convenient. The museum is free. The collection is fascinating. What more could anyone want?

The Amon Carter always has interesting special exhibits and the regular collection is spectacular. Plus it has two points that are different in this day and age - Free Admission and Free Parking.
