“Nice way to spend a day”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 2, 2013

Overpriced stores, trinket shops, some good restaurants and authentic Texas-style bars with country music, clubs, and historic buildings. If the temperature is right it is a good way to spend a day walking around. Don't expect much more than what you get in large cities old historic areas. Personally I enjoy walking around and understanding a piece of the city's heart....a good place for doing just that.

“Yawn. If you like tourist shops, this is the place for you.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

Not much to do except shop at trinket shops and eat so-so food. The petting zoo was pretty neat. Overall, it's kind of boring.

“Good Fun, don't eat at Star Cafe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013

The Historic District was fun for our son (5 years old). He loved seeing the men riding horses down the road and obeying the traffic lights. We ate at the Star Cafe, which I really can't recommend.

“Worth your time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

Well preserved interesting area with a number of things to do. A longhorn cattle drive is held twice a day (11:30am and 4pm) They drive about 20 longhorns down the street in front of the stockyards. They bring a couple of them out on the lawn after so that the kids (big or small) can sit on them while pictures are taken. The new museum in the old horse and mule barn is worth a trip. While it features exhibits about champion rodeo contestants, it also has about 30 horse drawn buggies and wagons that have been restored. Other exhibits relating to Texas history are also offered. Tip: The stockyards gift shop has lower prices than the other gift stores nearby.
