“Not bad friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

The food was good. My husband had a mixed plate. The ribs were ok. The brisket was good but greasy. The sausage bland and greasy. The potato salad was good. The pinto beans bland. I had the hamburger steak. It was good but the brown gravy was bland. The corn was canned. It's served cafeteria style. The price was fairly high but most bbq places are. Its in a corner of an old small strip mall. Theres plenty of seating. Nothing fancy but clean. We'd go back but not often.

“A decent place to eat in Ft. Stockton”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Let's face it: Ft. Stockton is not the gourmet capital of the USA. It's a middle-of-nowhere place that most visitors will just stop in to refuel. And if you're hungry, I recommend a BBQ meal at the Rix.

I think the previous review bemoaning the quality of the food and the cleanliness of the restaurant is ridiculous. It's a simple country eatery, and unless this is your "first rodeo" you won't be surprised by what you find inside. The food is served cafeteria-style, which we appreciated because we were trying to save some time on our way to Big Bend. Nothing was fancy, but the BBQ (Texas-style) was good. We tried both the brisket and the sausages, and no complaints. There was a decent choice of sides. I might have given the place 4-stars if not for the price: a plate lunch with one-meat costs $8.50 which seemed OK, but it wasn't exactly a bargain.

Bottomline, for travellers seeking local food in a local restaurant, the Rix is a good choice for lunch.

“The Pits”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2012

We were in town to survey Hwy 285 for our race coming up at the end of April. As there was no reviews on this restaurant on trip advisor, we checked on Yelp. Yelper let us astray. They gave this place four stars. I beg to differ, we are seasoned travelers, we enjoy good food and many times we ignore the looks of a place if the food is great. That's what we thought this would be like. We were very hungry and looked forward to ribs and beer. It is a cafeteria kind of a place as you walk thru some sort of a hardware store first. Friendly staff, but the place didn't look clean, the floor was dirty. We decided to ignore that, hoping to get some great food. I ordered brisket and sausage and my husband went for the ribs and sausage. The brisket was very fatty, the sausage was juicy but extremely salty. My husband's ribs were dry and chewy. One could easily call it pork rib jerky, the meat wouldn't come off the bone. The green beans looked and tasted like they came out of a can, and gnats flying around the condiments. Ugh! The price with one bear each came close to $40. We really don't like to waste food so we ate some but the rest went into the trash. Don't waste your time or your money in this place. We were surprised as to how many gave it four or more stars on Yelp!
