“This is about as close to camping as I want to get”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2008

I just got home from a weekend getaway at Lake O' the Woods. This is a great place to take your family! The resort is rustic and feels like you are on a campground

The cabin had one bedroom, one bathroom, and an open loft with two full sized beds. The living room had a pull out sofa as well. We were able to sleep eight comfortably: 4 adults, three big boys (ages 8, 9, and 12) and one toddler. The cabin was very clean inside and there were plenty of towels under the sink. All Silverleaf units include a full kitchen with dishes pots and pans, and this one was no exception. The kitchen was fully stocked with the exception of a wine opener and wine glasses. This was not a big deal, but it is something that I have seen in every other Silverleaf unit that I've been in.

The resort has a pool, a small mini-golf course, archery, hiking trails, fishing docks, a softball field, and a basket ball course. There is security on site, and an small activity center. They have wi-fi in the activity center and a grill that is reasonably priced. The Villages resort is about three miles away and you have access to all of their amenities as well.

I really enjoyed our trip to the Lake and will go back again and again. This is a great vacation if you want to connect with nature, or you want something a little bit different. I call it luxury camping. It is rustic enough to feel like you are camping but with all the comforts of home.

Silverleaf's Lake O' the Woods provided my family (2 adults 2 boys ages 11 & 9) and friends (1 adult and 2 kids age 10-girl & 3-boy) with a very peaceful and relaxing weekend trip. We stayed in a cabin unit which has 1 bedroom and a loft. The loft has 2 full size beds and the bedroom had 1 queen size bed. As with all Silverleaf property there is a living area and a kitchen.

The staff are very, very friendly and helpful. Maintnance was quick to respond when our toliet backed up. Fresh linens and towels were provided upon request.

The unit was very clean, however the furniture was old. These are cabins with 2 attahced units which you dont really realize becuase the entrance doors are on opposite side from each other. There is no one above or below you. This is great if you have kids who may jump around alot or if you dont want to hear other kids jumping around alot.

There is not the typical Silverleaf activity center at this resort (no pool table) but they do have board games and movies to check out.. They also have a grill of very reasonably priced items that you can purchase. i enjoyed this grill the most becuase they actually cooked the food instead of just opening up a package to stick in the microwave. Free coffee is available all day.

The property is large and rustic with trees all around you. The lake that the property sits on is absolutely beatiful. There is a fishing pier and grassy area that leads up to the lake that so you can sit and enjoy the view. Silverlead also has a double wooden swing that you can sit on to enjoy the view.

The resort has a kids playground, archery, basketball, tennis, hiking trails and other outdoor activities. The minigolf area needs updating and not at all like the mini golf at the other Silverleaf resorts. the resort is not as flat as the others here in TX so it is enjoyable to walk around. (makes you feel like you're getting some excerise).

This resort is ideal for kids due to the wide open area and is a great place for kids to skateboard, heely, ride ripstick or fusion, kick around a ball or enjoy the on site activities.

Silverleaf's Villages resort is just 2-3 miles down the road and provided a full activity center (some renovations taking place) and a nice mini golf setup. They also have a indoor waterpark that should be opeing on tommorrow. You have access to both resorts and the amenties.

There is a grocery store at the corner near the Villages "Brookshires" or you can go into town to loop 323 where there is a Walmart (much cheaper than Brookshires) and several fast food places and a mall.

If you enjoy being around nature and water this would be a great place to vist.

Talk about getting in touch with nature! This resort sits on wooded acres with wildlife galore in a quiet town. I saw armadillo for the first time in my life. I thought my dog would pull me off into the woods trying to chase him. Silverleaf’s Resorts are pet-friendly, and I am yet to experience pet odors in any of the locations I’ve stayed in.

I rated this resort a three only because of the limited activities, amenities and its location; a long drive from the interstate. The stay was extremely relaxing with a very friendly staff.

The units are categorized as one-bedroom with lofts. The exteriors are log cabin-like structures, front and rear duplexes; yet the interior is fairly comfortable with the exception of uninvited guests. The loft area has two double beds, a night table with lamp and a dresser. There is one bathroom with a hot tub that wasn’t too inviting. There’s also a pullout sofa. The unit is fairly sound; I didn’t hear the noise from downstairs and barely heard my neighbors next door.

My only concern with this property would be the unpleasant visitors in the unit. I contacted the office about small cockroaches the last couple days of our vacation. They offered to send the exterminator immediately. Since I had my dog, I elected to get some roach motels instead. The manager eagerly reimbursed me for the purchase and apologized copiously. I don’t know if any of the other units were infested as well. It might have only been our duplex. Overall, the resort staff was fantastic!

Lake O’ the Woods is a very relaxing place, but it is some distance from the interstate. There aren’t many amenities, just the basics, but enough if you’re looking to unwind. There’s also a small RV park which is interesting. The property is gated with 24-hour security, which is comforting. The sister property (Silverleaf’s Villages) is nearby which would be wonderful for families with small children to visit. (I understand they’re building a water park at the Villages.)
