You know, it's kinda' hidden behind a Whataburger and a DQ but if you'll look over you'll see Gus' Mexican in the little strip mall behind the drive-in's and a bank. Worth the stop! It's managed by Gus and Gilbert Ramierez who, in the past, managed Gilbert's El Charro's but it's more upscale and with a different menu and recipes.
And, at least for the time being, they don't have a liquor license, so Gus is often wandering around pouring out margaritas for his guests. Since he's not selling any, it's like a night out at your friends!
He has two main rooms for dining, but it still gets a little packed on weekends. There's a nice outside area too, which was pretty nice in May and might be again by September once the 90 degree evenings go away.
The fare includes good variety and they're always experimenting with a few additions. Cilantro garnishes and guacamole sides are often standards with options for all from ranch hands to vegetarians. Worth a try!
