“charming friendly relaxed inn”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

i want to rave about the country place hotel in fayettevile, texas, where the city's motto is "come to fayettevile and do nothing,' and if you want to , you can deeply relax and sit on the upstairs veranda with a glass of wine in the evening or delicious coffee in the morning, and just chill, but if you are more energetic, the area offers plenty of interesting distraction.

Clovis and maryann are fascinating people and warm gracious generous innkeepers. cloviss
lovely paintings are all over the inn, and if you are lucky, he will take you next door to see his studio, in which he also features some other talented local artists.

the homemade breakfast was delicious, with lots of choices.

fayetteville is a sweet tiny town, near the culture and antiques of round top, the painted churchs of schulenberg, and the quilt museum, beautiful county courthouse and great historic square of la grange.

a great weekend getaway from either austin or houston.

I was extremely impressed with the cleanliness in my room and bathroom. The room was small, but I actually found that cozy and comfortable this time. I loved the front porch, set up with rocking chairs on the second floor, looking out to the one main block of their "town square". It was very relaxing and unhurried. What a nice break from city life. There were adequate places to eat only a few feet away across the street in the square. Go here when you feel that you want to get away for a quiet, simple weekend but don't want to drive too far. From Houston it was probably only an hour and 10 minute drive. Round Top isn't too far away and is a great little hot spot on Saturdays for some antiquing and a little travel back in time with their courthouse and jail house upstairs. I think spring time would be the best time to thoroughly enjoy the weather out on the front porch. The breakfast was ok. It's not country cooking with enormous portions and you may leave a little hungry if you don't get there early. But overall, I'd say it was adequate. I stayed in a room next to the street and heard the occasional car drive by. I didn't tour the rest of the facility, but if they have a room that doesn't have a side to the street, I'd recommend asking for it. They had wine and cheese and granola in the front room when we arrived, but only for a few hours.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street side. Bring a fan for white noise. Bring your own hair dryer...

This is a beautiful property that was remodeled and opened as the Country Place Hotel in 2003. It sits on a quaint town square in Fayetteville, TX. We have stayed there several years since opening, each April for the MS150. The hotel consists of 7 beautiful rooms, all with a private bath or shower, shared Air Conditioning, and queen or double beds. It is evident that the inkeepers love their hotel and take good care of the property. The rooms have no television or telephone and cell phone service can be spotty in this lovely town. The hotel does not have handicap accessability as far as I can tell. Nor does it have any pool, workout room, or other common facilities beyond the breakfast room. There is a great porch on the front of the hotel that overlooks the town square and is a great place to relax with a bottle or two of wine.

The breakfast is tagged as gourmet, but in all honesty it is not what I would call gourmet. - more of a homemade version of Holiday Inn Express or Hampton. It has some homemade muffins and bundt cake, Granola, yougart, cut fruit and an egg, cheese, and churiso? caserole that was rather greasy. It seems that the first few years the inkeepers bent over backwards to treat guests well. This year it seems more like they are possiblly getting tired of the guests. They are not rude, just lacking in passion & interaction that was there before. They say they will work with dietary restrictions, but refused to make the egg caserole (or a substitute) without Cheese.

I am sure that you will love the property, love the town, and in reality I bet you will not notice anything wrong with the inkeepers - they are still nice just a bit stand off "ish" The inkeepers do not stay on site.

As a side note from a security standpoint - they do not lock the front door. I know that this is a small town, but reality is for guest safety the front door should be locked at night. The people in the town are wonderful, but you do get outsiders.

Try Orsaks next door for lunch and dessert. Try Joe's on the square for dinner. Oh, and make sure to go see the old court records in the courthouse on the square.
