Description: First established in 1882, Southside is proud to offer Authentic Texas Barbeque and Sausage from the oldest joint in the state! Best known as the home of the Original Elgin Sausage, we're equally proud of our slow smoked brisket, pork steaks, ribs, chicken, turkey, and more. We've continued the same traditions of smoking quality meats over real Texas post oak wood with nothing but a simple dry rub and time for over 132 years. We also offer a fresh meat market & Blue Bell ice cream counter. We're a family friendly place that'll treat YOU like family on your next visit.

“Simply the Best!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

There is nothing at this place that isn't good! Everything is so moist and delicious. The chicken here rocks but their main stars are the brisket and sausage! The sausage is simply the best that I have ever had. Do not pass this one up! True Texas barbecue, what it's all about!

“Excellent Place to Eat and Buy Meat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

My wife and I visited Southside Market for lunch and it was a very large place. It was crowded for lunch. My wife ordered the beef brisket plate and got potato salad and slaw as her sides. The brisket was moist, tender and a great smoky flavor. She loved the sides that she had, as well. I had the two meat plate with brisket, sausage along with slaw and beans. The brisket was very good, but the sausage is some of the best I've ever had. It wasn't overly seasoned, but had a wonderful flavor. The sides were very good. They also have a really nice meat market. So if you want to buy brisket, pork steaks, ribs, sausages and more to BBQ yourself they have a great variety. They also sell frozen BBQ ribs, steaks, etc., if you want to bring them home and heat them up. This is really a worthwhile place to visit.

“Even a picky 8 year old was happy!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2013

We passed through Elgin on the way to the Polar Express in Austin with 2 grandsons in tow. They are 8 and 10 years old. The 8 year old was disappointed we weren't stopping at McDonalds and pouted that he didn't want anything. That is, until an employee showed up and offered him a sample of sausage! The kid loves sausage and his entire attitude changed once he ate a piece of the sample, promptly ordering a sausage wrap. He devoured it along with the chips and drink that came with the child's meal. The 10 year old had the child's portion of BBQ sandwich, prepared just as he ordered it, with just pickles on it. He ate it so quickly that the 8 year old accused him of hiding it! Oh, and it was a LARGE sandwich. I couldn't have eaten it all. Grandparents ordered a loaded baked potato each and this grandma couldn't finish hers. It was delicious, just alot of food. Price for all 4 including all drinks, chips and a brownie for desert for the kids was $27.

“Great BBQ”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2013

This place is huge. The pork ribs were the best item on the menu followed by the turkey and brisket. I was not a fan of the sasuage. A little too fatty for me. Save room for dessert. Blue bell ice cream and brownie were deliscious. Overall an excellent experience.

“Overall Good Barbecue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013 credit card Amex Card Member Review

Loved the sausage and sauce! The brisket was just ok-I think you can get the same quality at Rudy's and it's so much more convenient since we live in Austin. But overall, a great trip out to Southside. Thank you!
