“Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2012

The hosts were absent upon arrival (an emergency) so we checked ourselves into the cottage. Nice room but the toilet is exposed to the rest of the bathroom so if you like any privacy someone needs to leave. There was a mini fridge - completely empty. There was a good assortment of tea bags and ground coffee - no creamer, stir sticks or spoons. There was an ice bucket - but no ice. Normally, a B&B has a welcome drink, snack or supply of comfort items (soft drinks, wine, etc) available. We had tap water. The B&B is in the middle of nowhere so it was a dark, winding ride home from dinner. The only mention of breakfast was a sign in the kitchen stating continental breakfast available prior to 8am. We arrived for breakfast shortly after 8 and found a cold, dark kitchen. Based on the sign, it seemed there would be no breakfast that morning. Afterwards, we were told breakfast was at 9am and they were sorry we missed it. Professional innkeepers would have been specific about the time and would have made an effort to connect with the guests they were over charging - maybe a note on our door letting us know they were sorry they couldn't greet us but look forward to meeting us at breakfat at 9am - or, sorry we've been unavailable, please enjoy breakfast at the cafe on us.The disappointment would be more tolerable if we hadn't paid so much but, sadly, the value and B&B experience we expected was completely lacking.

Thank you for your review. It has been very beneficial for us as business owners. We have not had a medical emergency in the past and we have learned the importance of having a plan for such situations. We take very seriously the service we provide to our guests and have implemented a plan for such situations. We provide fresh cream, spoons, coffee, and tea for the rooms. Unfortunately, in our haste to get to the hospital, the room was not stocked. In our common area, we have available at all time’s refreshments and there is an ice machine. We have also, changed our sign in the room to include the typical breakfast time

We booked the inn based on reviews in Tripadvisor. We found good and not quite good. The good - we booked the cottage and it was nice. Large rooms, nicely decorated. Enjoyed the hammocks and the garden. The not-so-good - the inn is really isolated, several miles from ANYTHING. At least 20 minutes down county roads to Dripping Springs. Very dark drive back at night. For some reason no door to the toilet. Battery on the TV remote dead. Battery on the heater remote about to die. We did not meet the owners - there was an emergency and they were at the hospital. No problem - we checked ourselves in and hoped they were OK. It was not made clear, however, that breakfast was not served until 9 AM. The brochure describes a "continental breakfast" available at 8 AM - there was nothing and the dining room was dark. WIth no one to talk to we drove to Wemberley and bought our breakfast. Not a huge deal but it sort of took away the charm of the B&B experience, which is what we paid for. All in all we understand the emergency and we accomodated to it but we wold probably stay closer to town on our next trip to the area.

We have taken great strides in our web site to indicate that the Inn is located in a rural area surrounded by large ranches. It is 15 minutes to Dripping Springs and since we are a rural property, night time driving along country roads is dark and there are no street lights. We have not had a medical emergency in the past and we have learned the importance of having a plan for such situations. We take very seriously the service we provide to our guests and have implemented a plan for such situations. We cannot predict when the remote control batteries will go out, that is why we leave spear batteries in each room for our guest’s convenience. We have also, changed our sign in the room to include the typical breakfast time.

I took my girlfriend to the hill country, and to visit the wineries for the weekend.. I found this great BB that was in the middle of them all. We saw something we hadn't got to see in a long time... The stars that fill the Texas sky!! We stayed in the cottage that is behind the main house, very romantic and quiet. Our host went out of her way to accommodate us, and even delivered breakfast both mornings!! The food was out of this world, some of the best food I've ever had, well worth the drive just for it!! Guys if you wanna impress her and get away for a weekend, go to Mt Gainor!!

My partner and I stay here every year on our anniversary for the past 3 years in a row. The romantic atmosphere and sunset views from the hot-tub are some of our best memories yet. We love the near proximity of The Salt Lick BBQ as well as the more romantic Trattoria Lisina. The owners are sweet, considerate and offer just the right touches to make every stay a pleasant, private and romantic one. They keep their distance but will gladly provide directions and restaurant recommendations when request but then they quietly remove themselves and allow you space to enjoy the rolling hills and gorgeous sunrises/sunsets. We often go for a bike ride in the hills around the BnB - they provide maps with turn by turn directions and different distance options. It is always a joy to come back to the bed and breakfast and snuggle up next to the "fake" but ROMANTIC fire with a cup of tea or glass of red wine from the nearby wineries in Driftwood.

Room Tip: Request either the Hideaway or the lux Side Oats Cottage

Enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. We had a breakfast casserole that was very tasty. We enjoyed the hot tub and the hill country views. The room was spacious and comfy. We enjoyed the fireplace. The location is about 25 min to most restaurants such as salt lick. Overall great for a relaxing getaway!

Jerry and Laurie are super hosts. Their bi-line 'life is good' is right on target for our short visit.
If you enjoy biking, they have some awesome hill country bike routes already mapped out.
Our room was very nice and breakfast was delicious - especally after an early morning bike ride!

There's even a special coffee - Mt Gainor blend -- that is based on some of their Costa Rica travels. The beans are freshly roasted for them in Austin. We even picked some up to bring home.

Cant forget to mention Nell - the Inn cat -- who kept us 'safe' by guarding our porch.

If you want a quiet country get-away with some real nice folks - MGI's the place.
.

Room Tip: La Posada is really 3 rooms. Tons of space and windows have nice vista views.

We had a wonderful stay at Mt Gainor. Jerry and Laurie the Inn keepers were very warm and welcoming. Loved being out yet close enough to go into Wimberly to shop. Very quite and relaxing. Food was very good. We will return!!
