“What a great place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2013

We recently held our graduation for a leadership class at this hotel...The staff could not have been more helpful and accomidating. It was a great evperience for the entire class. The hotel has such a nostalgic feel. I would definatly gio there again.

My local group had a graduation party in the Bridewell room and outdoor terrace this month. Cinthia Skidmore and her staff worked with us every step of the way to make sure we had a night to remember! We were a little bit of a logistical challenge, but nothing stopped them from making it a success. The hotel is beautiful and charming. From the valet, to the concierge, to the event staff, to the hotel room staff - they all made sure the night was smooth. I recommend using the Melrose and know you will have a wonderful experience too.

My husband & I recently made a return stay at the Dallas Melrose Hotel for our anniversary. We were pleasantly surprised when we were informed that they had upgraded our room from the standard king to a superior king, which was large & spacious with an equally large bathroom. Everything was spotlessly clean & the understated elegance of the decor goes perfectly with the quiet, relaxing environment of the hotel, which you notice as soon as you walk in the door of this lovely place. After we had left our room for a little while, we returned to find an ice bucket filled with a nice bottle of champagne & some chocolate covered strawberries for our enjoyment. This was very nice. They really appreciate your business at this hotel. Also, their location is great, near the new arts district & they provide complimentary transportation to nearby restaurants. Also, love the Library Piano Bar.

Room Tip: We love staying on the 2nd floor as there are an abundance of windows

I stayed at the Melrose for the first time, over 25 years ago, when it hosted a reception for a wedding I had attended across the street. After many years, I stayed here last Saturday night. I arrived solo rather late Saturday night, used the valet parking. The live music was still playing in the Library Bar, so I was unable to have a quiet drink (or even loud drink, the place was popular and the music good!) but I took a glass of wine back to my comfy room. Everything was spotless, the bed was comfortable, my room quiet on the 8th floor. I like the elegant style of these older hotels, instead of the cookie cutter looks of newer ones.

I was happy with my experience, and will stay here again when I'm in this part of Dallas.

Room Tip: I was on 8th floor, so I didn't notice any traffic noise that others have mentioned.

Was there for 4 nights and thought the hotel was fine. Nothing amazing.

Positives: The staff was nice and bed was good, the restaurant was good. And the talent at library bar was amazing (Monday night). Amazing. Cabs at the ready.

Negatives: busy street and old windows made it loud, and the 'free' shuttle was nowhere to be found. They also charge for Internet access, 2 levels of speed. (How early 2000s)

Room Tip: Go high, above the street noise.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review on Tripadvisor. The issues you mention have been discussed internally so that we can approve in the areas as noted. I am happy to inform you that next month we will begin the process of replacing 960 windows in the guest rooms. This process has taken nearly two years for approval as with a historic property there are reviews and approvals by the historic commission that are very lengthy and trying. Our window project should be completed at end of summer. We hope to welcome you back to our hotel in the near future.

Parking in the area is free or $25 at the hotel, fairly excessive. Checked in requested mini bar key wasnt provided, requested 1 key they gave us to. It was very obvious that the front desk doesnt listen. Bathroom at the hotel was dirty. Male facial hair clippings in the soap dish and the cups on the sink. The room itself is large and very comfortable. Ac unit was cold, bed was very comfortable. Hotel itself was nice and quiet. Hotel definitely doesn't deserve the #8 slot in Dallas.

We spent another relaxing weekend in Dallas at our favorite hotel. The staff is always friendly and courteous offering helpful information. The valet service is efficient. The fact that the staff has had little turn-over in the four years we have stayed at the Melrose indicates the good management and quality of personnel employed. The Melrose is a classic hotel that is kept in good shape. We have never been disappointed. This hotel compares to Four Seasons, Star, and other high end brands that we have patronized over the past twenty years.

Room Tip: Easy walking distance to the Katy Trail in Turtle Creek Park. Entrance to the trail is at the foot o...
