“Tried to shame me into a donation”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

Visited as some renovations were underway, so there was a tiny part of the museum open. Not sure how much is normal open. nonetheless, girl at desk says "we are free, but we do accept donations"
The exhibits may have been good, but honestly they looked like the decorations that I used to we in the modestly price House of Bamboo Chinese restaurant on Bustleton Ave in. Philly when I grew up.

“The collection is wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

If you need an Asian Art 101 experience, the Crow Collection is wonderful. The family's collection is varied both in time and medium. The museum isn't large, so it doesn't require hours on end of viewing time unless you are an Asian art specialist yourself. While visiting the Dallas Arts District, this is a great place to stop in and enjoy.

“Small overall, but such nice art!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

The Crow Collection of Asian Art turned out to be yet another accidental find while walking to the Dallas Museum of Art. The museum is small, but it is very well set up, with lots of first-rate pieces to feast one's eyes on. As soon as I saw the statue and fountains leading to the main entrance I knew this was going to be an enjoyable visit.

The art pieces date from as far back as the 10th century, and come from the major art centers of Asian (including India) and Pacific Island countries. My favorites were the works from India, Nepal and Tibet. The sculpture there is amazing. The current special exhibit about jade (through November 2014) was interesting and informative; I liked that one a lot. Sorry, but I have to give "thumbs down" on the china.porsche (through 5/25) installation. It's a model of a Porsche 911 that is covered with porcelain-like art. The painting would look just fine on pottery, but it sucked on the car ... too bad for the wasted museum space (gotta be honest).

Good news: admission is free (donations welcome), and photography is allowed in all but select rooms.

“Small but mighty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2014

This museum has an astounding array of Asian art, despite its being in a very small space. The works, as you might imagine, are also mostly smallish examples. I especially enjoyed the collection of Korean pottery from several time periods. You can really see the evolution.

“Stunning collection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014

This small museum (compared to the huge nearby DMA) has top-notch selections from Asia. The China Porsche was fantastic!
