Found this gem on TripAdvisor, boy was it worth the trip! Very small family owned restaurant, Veracruz coastal dishes. Most definitely not like Tex-Mex or any other regionally-inspired Mexican food I've tasted (which has been a lot because I love it). Very nice bar, our margaritas were fabulous and strong.
If you like guacamole, don't pass it up. It's pricier than most places, but the vat of it you get can feed four people. So fresh, obviously just made, with lots of flavors (without being packed with onions, thankfully). The chips were also homemade and delicious. For dinner, my friend had the Cochinita Pibil, the pork so tender and plentiful, with a citrus-based marinade just steeped into it. Accompanying jasmine rice and black beans were tasty, too. I *also* had a pork dish (that I can't remember the name of) served with a black bean sauce and some kind of habanero dip (both on the side) that had me draining my water glass... twice. My dining companion sampled it and said she'd come there for that alone, so it's apparently very good if you like hot/spicy things. My meal also included two plantains, prepared with a drizzle of the chef's special cream sauce. Yes, that sounds suspicious, but it was really, really good. I'm not usually a huge plantain fan, but I'd eat a plateful of these things. They were much tastier and lighter than the ones I've had before in a Salvadoran restaurant.
We got there about 7 on a Tuesday night and had the restaurant to ourselves, but by 7:45 there wasn't an empty seat in the place. They apparently have a patio, too, that we didn't see. The service was fantastic, brother and sister from the family/owners took care of us through the night. I wish I'd gotten the girl's name, she was friendly and polite and very helpful with the menu, as there were many things we wanted to know more about. You can check out their menu online, but it changes with what's available/freshest, so there may be different options when you go. Next time I'm trying the lobster enchiladas!
