Although we live in the DFW metroplex, we opted to spend 3 nights at the Omni while attending a multi day event being held at the adjoining convention center with evening banquets and breakfasts held in the Omni ballrooms.
If you’re attending an event held at the Dallas convention center, nothing beats the sheer convenience of this hotel that is connected by a short, indoor pedestrian bridge.
Our convention’s block pricing was $165 per night, lower than anything we could find online for that time frame. For that we were booked a deluxe room with two queen beds and I requested a quiet room on a higher floor. When I called the Omni on the morning of our arrival to confirm the reservation, I was told that if I wanted a king size bed he could upgrade our room and put us on the 21st floor. Of course I graciously accepted with a request that the room not be near an elevator.
Upon pulling up to the front we were met by a doorman who helped my husband unload luggage and then directed me to the self-parking lot. (I declined valet.) Although the drive around the hotel made it seem like it would be a hike back, au contraire. You essentially fall out of the parking lot elevator into the main lobby! Very convenient.
Check in was a breeze and a friendly bell hop escorted us to our room. When you request a room away from the elevator, they take you seriously. Corridors were heavily padded and quiet.
A nice touch upon entering our room was the personalized greeting scrolling across the wide screen TV. The floor to ceiling windows gave us a great SE view of the Dallas Skyline and Fair Park and the cattle drive sculpture below. The room darkening drapes were great. That high up, street noise was barely heard. On that note, this has got to be the quietest climate control of any hotel room I’ve stayed. I normally travel with an eye mask to block out room or window light and ear plugs to block out the rattle of a room’s a/c or heating fan. Neither was needed in the Omni.
I think the room was nicely appointed but not what I’d consider particularly luxurious. Bed, pillows, an overstuffed chair and ottoman were comfortable. There was an adequate light for reading in bed or in the chair. The bathroom had a large shower and the expected amenities. Yes, there was a TV in the bathroom mirror but the remote did not seem to work correctly. There was an in room safe, a small wine refrigerator, and a small coffee maker cup with Wolfgang Puck brewing bags.
As for food service, the general consensus of my tablemates was that the three evening banquet meals exceeded everyone’s expectations. If I’m correct about this, the Omni banquet chef came from The French Room. We had breakfast one morning at Texas Spice and were pleased with the Eggs Benedict. At last a restaurant that knows how to properly prepare hollandaise sauce and is not skimpy with the portions.
Why not 5 stars? The Devil is in the details:
There was big stain on ottoman. Yes, it looked as if they tried removing it the best they could. But still. I didn’t expect to see stained furniture in a hotel of this caliber.
There was only one bathrobe hanging in the closet when the room was booked for two. We had a late afternoon check in and wanted to shower and relax before our evening banquet. After calling the front desk it took nearly an hour for an apologetic housekeeper to get the second robe to our room.
The remotes for both TVs were quite temperamental and frustrating to use. Perhaps they needed new batteries.
In regards to that coffee maker. It’s entirely black. The ceramic mugs are black. So it was difficult to notice that the housekeeper placed the mugs in upside down which I'm guessing must have been her way of indicating mugs were clean. Yeah, that created a mess when I brewed a single cup of coffee . I did request the front desk address the upside down mug placement with housekeeping and, on a positive note, upon my return home I had an email waiting for me from the assistant executive housekeeper thanking me for my feedback regarding this.
Other TA reviewers mentioned turndown service. Was there supposed to be? If so, we never received it.
Will we stay here again for next year’s convention and banquets? Absolutely.
Higher floors offer the best views. If you request a room away from an elevator be prepared to walk...
