I surprised my husband with a stay at the aloft in mid June 2010. There are so many hotels we could have chosen and we live in Dallas so we were only there to have a get-a-way and enjoy some time together. The hotel is modern and trendy and I enjoyed that part of it. When we got back from dinner and drinks, we planned to hang out in their bar, the wxyz bar. There was a birthday party and after-wedding party going on so it was really loud and rowdy. This was not a big deal but we had one drink and then decided to enjoy a more peaceful evening in our room.
When we got to our room around 10pm, there was a huge party next door. People were very loud and pouring out of it. We asked to be moved and they moved us to a 7th floor corner room. The room was fine but it didn't have a few of the amenities that normal hotel rooms do such as an ice bucket, glasses to drink, etc. The 7th floor was hot and musty and smelled like chlorine. When we got into the room, we realized the a/c was on a sensor so there was no a/c on until we walked in. Although it took quite a long time to cool the room (this is Texas in June), we were ok with it and happy to enjoy the hotel. Then, we went to sleep...
We both woke up at least once an hour, if not more, completely sweat soaked. The sensor did not stay on since there was no motion in the room so as soon as we fell asleep, the a/c would shut off. I called downstairs and they informed me that there was not a technician in the hotel until tomorrow. I said, we are only staying one night and he said there was nothing he could do about it. I had the worst night of my life and my husband's birthday night was ruined.
In addition, there was another rowdy and drunk hotel guest in the hallway at 2am, screaming at the top of his lunges and acting very belligerent. I felt like I was in a college dorm room or at a frat party.
I have asked for the manager's name and number and plan to try and get my money back but no one at the "Aloha" desk seemed to care much. For $165, this is the biggest waste of money. Do not spend your hard earned money here, please.

In our ongoing efforts to comply with “Green Certification” initiatives, we experienced a software failure in our Energy Management System. While not an excuse, this failure was not a quick fix- as it required various programming and software changes. This also led to the property having to take room inventory offline at the last minute on any given day to facilitate the upgrades, which limited our ability to honor room type requests. We strive to provide the experience that our guests expect and deserve, and are truly apologetic that we fell short. The system challenges are now resolved and we apologize to all of our guests that were inconvenienced during their stay.
Regarding the noise issues, we regret that other hotel guests caused a disturbance late in the evening. Our security personnel hotel respond immediately upon notification of any disturbance to investigate and quickly resolve the situation.
We hope should future travel plans bring you back to Dallas, you would give us another opportunity to be your home away from home.
