“15th Wedding Anniversary!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

Our first time at the Adolphus!, From the moment we stepped out of our vehicle until we called for it the next day it was jaw dropping great service. Elvis (Paul) showed us to our room, and while to had an old world kind of charm, it was not fancy. However the Bed was awesome, Il say it again awesome!!! The view from the front of the hotel was awesome from the 22 nd floor. Everyone was super friendly and room service breakfast may have been the best breakfast in my 52 years of life!!! Not one complaint about this grand old lady, room was quiet and the big screen TV was great as well. Additionally if you want to eat and not get your car out, there are 15 pretty nice resturants behind the hotel one block away.

The management is worstI have ever met! Booked a double double suite. Checked in with my daughter, My friends husband, and his daughter. We were booked for two separate beds. However the management decided to take all of the double rooms and given to some local convention. I asked to speak to a manager and was told there was absolutely nothing they would or could do . I asked for my money back they told me know .I asked for them to put my friend's husband and his daughter in another room. they told me they would charge me double for another room. The hotel is the old and dirty . The beds Were very uncomfortable. THE MAGNOLIA WHICH IS DIRECTLY ACROSS THE STREET WAS MUCH NICER AND HAS A SHUTTLE....and the Omni is connected to the convention center Immediately. Unless you don't care getting what you paid for..... go somewhere else

Room Tip: Doesn't matter what you book....they give you what they want

Booked a double room months ago. Upon entering the room, found a single, queen-sized room for two full-sized adults. Front desk clerk did not have the decency to tell me this as she dourly handed me the card key five minutes earlier! Called the front desk to rectify the situation. Desk clerk read the script at least three times, "Sorry. NCA blocked all double rooms. We do not have one for you." Note when I booked the room months ago, double bed rooms were available (and the reason I booked at this hotel). Had I truthfully been shown "run of the house" accommodations I would have booked elsewhere. A veteran business and cheer competition traveler, I will never book at The Adolphus again. For a southern "gem," the staff need re-training in effective hospitality and "smile" lessons. So disappointed. The only good thing is the hotel is located near the Dallas Convention Center and a CVS!

Room Tip: Good luck getting the room you book!

Dear Lois,

The hotel does its very best to accommodate those who attend conventions and request specific room types.

During citywide conventions, hotel guest rooms are strictly controlled by the Dallas Housing Bureau and, in this case, the National Cheerleaders Association. Owing to this outside control of our rooms, room requests were treated as requests only and not guarantees.

Our staff should always be gracious, kind, and helpful, regardless of the circumstances. As many reviews attest, The Adolphus staff are exceptional in this regard. In rare instances, however - when guests are abusive and extremely contrary - they have to replace a smile with a brave face and soldier on.

We wish you the best in finding a hotel that can accommodate your demands.

Sincerely,

David

I came here on a 3-day trip for business. The accommodations were nice. The bed was very comfortable. I didn't think that there was anything spectacular about this hotel. The outside architecture is beautiful. The elevators can use a little work. One in particular was a little scary to ride. Overall, I felt the stay was okay. No real "wow" factor.

You can feel the history here before you even walk in the door. The valet staff is fast and courteous and eager to help. They unloaded all of our things onto a cart and handed it off to be taken to our room. Front desk staff was perfect, friendly and helpful. They checked us in quickly and easily and sent us to our room.

The rooms are somewhat underwhelming for the price, with stained chairs and dated decor (and not in the good, Victorian sense that you'd expect). While there was an honor bar fully stocked, there was no microwave or fridge available for any leftovers or beverages of your own which is a brilliant marketing move for their on-site restaurants and room service, I suppose. I just felt that for the price this should be offered.

The beds are amazingly comfortable albeit unstable due to the cheap frames on which they sit. There was a lot of wobbling! The sheets were luxe and clean.

The bathroom was nice but nothing spectacular although the rain-shower type shower head was a nice touch. The complimentary toiletries are great quality and didn't leave my skin or hair feeling dried out as they often do.

The closet is HUGE and is a waste of space. You could have half the space for the closet and that would be more than adequate.

I ordered room service on the morning of our departure - huevos rancheros - and I am still craving them. The room service set up is very nice - they bring a standard sized table to your room and set it all up for you. That was a nice touch. Staff was again very friendly.

All in all, it's worth the money to stay in such an upscale, historic hotel in the heart of downtown Dallas. I enjoyed our trip immensely and look forward to staying here again in the future.

Dear Guest,

You are most kind to highlight our many outstanding qualities.

With more than 400 guest rooms and 20 different floor plans, we have accommodations to match every taste. As you might imagine - at any given moment - one of the rooms may need some TLC. Your comment allowed us to address the areas that you mentioned. As has been our tradition since 1912, The Adolphus will be lavished with even more luxury in the coming year, fulfilling the dreams and wishes of our many loyal guests. This includes guest rooms, public spaces and much, much more.

We receive many compliments on the Queen Anne furniture, which was purchased at great expense. Over time, it does require refinishing and tightening. Should you need to use the mini bar refrigerator for personal items, our guest room dining staff would be happy to accommodate you. As you discovered, we are a can-do hotel.

Thank you, too, for the compliments about our in-room dining. We are delighted that you were impressed with the food, presentation and service.

All of us at The Adolphus send you warmest wishes - and our invitation to return soon.

Very sincerely,

David

We stayed at the Adolphus Hotel as we were attending a national cheerleading competition at the Dallas Convention Center. The hotel was an easy walk to the venue and the hotel allowed us to park our car early in the morning before we could check in!! Bonus! The atmosphere of the hotel at first seemed somewhat stuffy and "old school" with the piano playing in the hotel lobby bar and the dark wood and leather club chairs, but the staff was very pleasant and accomodating to us and the girls. Our room was large and well appointed, although I did suggest that some additional lighting in the bathroom would be helpful. We did not eat at the hotel, but there are some great inexpensive restaurants within 100 feet of the hotel. Also a CVS Pharmacy is just around the corner for those forgotten items or late night snacks.

Dear Paige,

We appreciate your kind words and helpful suggestions. Many travelers will be grateful for the tips - and your description of the ease with which you walked to the Dallas Convention Center.

The Adolphus has a prime location, to be sure. Adolphus Busch himself chose it, and we have been eternally grateful for his foresight. He was a man of vision, to be sure.

Thank you, Paige.

Best,

David

Just back from 3 nights in Dallas on business. Got an incredible deal on Hotwire for myself and two co-workers. Two of us had rooms facing Commerce - great rooms, nice views, all the amenities. One (not me unfortunately) got a corner room (almost twice the size) facing Main. Staff was very professional and helpful. Rooms were comfy. Great location. Love the history of the hotel (100 years old, 19th floor haunted, string of celebrity visitors including Queen Elizabeth). Architectural details are amazing....windows, arches, doorways, all the dark wood and marble. Would recommend to anyone!

Room Tip: great views from rooms overlooking Commerce, try for a corner room.
