“Nice and comfortable, but missing breakfast!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2010

Nice place and it was very clean. We checked the room up and down for bed bugs and found none! I was a bit disappointed because they did not have a continental breakfast. They have a restaurant with breakfast you can buy, but if I have to pay for breakfast, I am going to go somewhere different. The beds were comfortable and staff were pretty nice.

I like the newer Holiday Inn's and HI Expresses. This one is a few years old, but still looks new and has new amenities. The room was nice with a real comfortable bed. The problem was the wear in the room seemed premature so such a new hotel. The thermostat was missing buttons, the shower had stained/cracked tiles above it and parts of the bathroom cover/paint was chipped and cracking. The TV, although fine, was an older tube type, and just looked out of place in a "newer" hotel. I'd stay again for sure, but hope they address the minor wear and tear.

The facility is fine. The first thing you notice when you get in the room is the climate control is off. Had to turn on the heat (chilly spell in TX). Beds are firm. Bathrooms are newer decor. Room didn't smell bad (not welcomed by a pleasant clean smell either though). Pool is tiny but the water is warm. The only real "knock" I have is that the lounge doesn't stay open as advertised. In the elevator there is an information page framed on the wall. It says the lounge will be open until 11;00 on weekends (10:00 during the week). We went out to dinner and came back to have a couple of drinks in the lounge. However, it closed at 9:30 according to the front desk. When I pointed out the info in the elevator, gal says it always closes at 9:30. If I had known, we would have stayed out for a couple of nightcaps.

We loved our stay at this Holiday Inn. It's within easy driving distance of Texas A&M, and yet it's far enough from campus to feel like a getaway. The Holiday Inn staff was wonderful - friendly, helpful, and good-natured.

The room was clean, spacious, and well-maintained. It had a comfortable, plush king-sized bed, and we slept very well throughout stay. The room felt luxurious without being over the top.

The breakfast buffet was not included in our room rate, but it was reasonably priced ($8.95 per person). The restaurant staff went out of their way to be helpful, and we always felt welcome.

Two words of warning:

1. While the hotel has a pool and hot tub, we did not have a great experience with either. Staff may want to clean both more often rather than adding so much chlorine (which stung my eyes a lot).

2. The hotel does not offer room service. We ordered pizza one night from a local pizza place (listed in the hotel directory), Gumby's. The pizza tasted like cardboard. Another pizza place (Antonio's Pizza by the Slice, 979-260-3535) is reputed have the best NY-style pizza in Aggieland; however, Antonio's stops taking delivery orders after 8:30 pm. (We tried to order at 8:45 but no dice, so we ended up with Gumby's.)

We realize that the pizza is not the hotel's fault and the pool/hot tub issue is fairly minor. In all, we had a wonderful experience with the Holiday Inn at Aggieland and highly recommend it for visitors to College Station.

  • Liked — positive atmosphere, thanks to both staff and the building design
  • Disliked — cleanliness of pool and hot tub

Very nice hotel. Spacious king room, with refrigerator and microwave. Nicely appointed bathroom - very clean, but a little small. Lovely lobby - nice impression when you enter. Extremely friendly and helpful front desk staff.

Nicely appointed grounds and entranceway. Bright and airy lobby. Check in was smoothly efficient. My room key and check in paperwork was prepared in advance of my arrival - nice touch.

The room was large and nicely appointed. We stayed there previously shortly after the hotel opened back in Spring 2006 but noticed that with just a little over a year of use much of the furniture is noticeably marred. No problems with room cleanliness. The air conditioning unit was louder than usual but not sleep disturbing. The beds and pillows were very comfortable.

The wireless internet was weak and sometimes intermittent (we were on the 3rd Floor). A network cable is available at the front desk. In the business office only one of the two computers is hooked to the printer.

The indoor pool area was clean but the water was a tad cold for our tastes.

There is an on-site restaurant but we did not eat there. Coffee is available 24/7 in the lobby but an option for tea is not. We used the microwave in the room to brew a cup of tea.

Overall, pleasant stay, nice hotel. Would stay here again.
