“Happy at the Hampton”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2008

I stayed here for one night while on business. This is the third time I have stayed here, but my first review of it. This Hampton is only a year or two old - still very clean and fresh. It is definitely a step above the previous generation of Hamptons - room decor, lobby, breakfast area, etc.

This hotel is located on the edge of town, about 2 miles or so from the A&M campus, which means it is in a relatively quiet area (no road noise from adjacent highway noticed). You can only access the property from the northbound frontage road, but that is not a big deal.

It has a decent pool and hot tub and patio area. There is a business center with a couple of PCs and printers - very nice and handy.

The breakfast is expanded continental with hot items, usually biscuites, eggs and meat - sometimes gravy. My most recent stay had the most disappointing items - ham and semi-poached eggs - they still made a good sandwich with a biscuit, though.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. They are really there for the guests.

The rooms have always been very clean with everything working well. Beds comfortable, plenty of tv channels (including 2 HBOs). Only drawback at all - no fridge/microwave in the rooms.

I highly recommend this hotel.

  • Liked — Still feels new, fresh, clean; friendly staff.
  • Disliked — Eggs, but only on one visit.

Great hotel! Will go to this hotel again! Hampton Inn didn't cut corners with this one. Hotel is new, well decorated, and very
nice! Paid $109 for a king suite & we were surprised at how
comfortable the room was. Free Breakfast was great too!

This hotel was great. It was very clean and helpful. Comfortable beds and a convenient breakfast in the morning. It has a nicely landscaped outdoor pool for the kids. Convenient to the campus and great for Home Aggie football games, as you can drive just down the street to Post Oak Mall and catch the free shuttle to the stadium.

I have stayed here several times and each time the room and bath have been very clean. The staff has been great and the breakfast is very good for a continental buffet. Overall, a very good experience and I will continue to stay here when visiting my student at A&M.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2005

As I write this review I have now stayed in this Hotel for almost a full week straight. The Hotel is very clean and good looking as it is only a month old (I'm told and it appears to be true).

Positives:
- New
- Convenient location to the highway
- Rooms are big (I was upgraded to the whirlpool tub room)
- Pool and hot tub out back are nice
- Seems like a reasonable enough price (I am here during the middle of summer though).

Negatives:
- There is not a bar to hang clothes on in the closet. Instead they rely on the plastic coated wire shelves common to a pantry closet to act as both a shelf and the area to hang clothes (obviously to save money). This became quite a nuisance.
- The internet service started out great but did not function properly last night (even though the hotel was almost empty)
- Cockroach. Yep, that's right I found a cockroach in my bathroom trashcan last night... *willies* ... big nasty boger. **flush**
- The whirlpool tub wasn't very big or deep. I could barely fit in it and I've never been accused of being a big person (6ft, 170lbs).
- This is really more of an annoyance but the room does not have enough drawer space and it's used as the TV stand. This became annoying walking all the way across the room to get to my clothes each morning.
- The entrance to the hotel is a little weird. You have to be going North on the frontage road for Texas Highway 6 to get into the Hotel. There is not a way to get in to the Hotel from University. Since traffic really wasn't bad this became more of an annoyance then an issue but watch out during heavy traffic times.

All in all, I will probably be staying here again next week.
