“A Nearly Perfect Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2012

I try to stay away from giving "five stars" but it was hard to find any fault with the Hyatt Lost Pines. It is truly a resort, offering nearly hourly free activities (animal meet and greet, kids crafts, outdoor movies, smores, stargazing, etc.) and numerous add-ons (archery, golf, horseback riding, river floats, etc.). The add-ons are fairly limited with young kids (5,7) due to age restrictions (check before booking if you have young kids), but we took advantage of many included activities with one add-on night hike. There are several restaurants on-site which were quite good. Every encounter that we had with staff was positive - all very friendly, greeting you first and being helpful with a smile.

Our boys couldn't pick a "favorite" of the trip until pressed, and then it was the pool and lazy river (which I have to agree were my favorite too). They have poolside service (drinks, bar food) which is a plus - however, they could do better cleaning the pool area, by the afternoon it was quite littered with cups, trash, etc. - I fault lazy customers but still...).

Yes, being "captive" makes it a bit on the expensive side, but there is a huge plus in not having to leave the property - treat it as a destination vacation. Wish we had thought ahead and stocked up on water, drinks, snacks, but we will do so next time -- as I can absolutely see us making Hyatt Lost Pines an annual get away.

Room Tip: It is a brig property, so if you have physical limitations, ask for a close-in room to the pool area...

We had a wonderful stay with our three kids this Labor Day weekend but were quite dismayed to see a $23/day resort fee tacked onto the bill at checkout. When I asked the girl who checked us out about it, she agreed that the website did a "terrible job" of pointing it out, that it was almost impossible to find on the site, and agreed that someone should have mentioned to us upon check in. Exactly...and yet, no offer to remove it from the bill, as what I would expect from a resort of this caliber and price. So the "free" wi-fi isn't free...it's $23 a day. Be advised.

On behalf of Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort and Spa, thank you for taking the time to review our resort. We are happy to read you enjoyed your trip and the amenities we offer. We're sorry to read you weren't aware of our daily resort fee. We have it indicated it on our reservations website. When you book a certain day it is indicated at the top of the webpage and states, "A daily Resort Fee of $23 plus tax will be added to your rate and includes internet, self-parking, golf bag storage and more." The more includes the first hour of bike rental, most daily recreation activities and access to our Crooked River Water Park. We hope that you choose to come see us again. Thank you again for your review!

My 10th wedding anniversary getaway from the heat of Dallas was to Hyatt Lost Pines Resort as a surprise from my husband. And boy we had a blast! It was still hot there but the Lazy river was so relaxing and truly lazy, that we had a lot of fun. My kids loved the pool, the sand beach and the smores. That was the highlight of the trip for them.
We loved the buffet dinner too. Was not very expensive....just $18 for an extensive spread. Their fondue fountain and desserts were out of this world.
I did not have so much fun even at my wedding than I had at my 10th wedding anniversary. The location, the hike, the tennis courts, the biking everything was so much fun. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful.
Thank you Hyatt for making our 10th wedding anniversary even more special.
You know what Hospitality means!

We are a family of 5--mom, dad, 10 year old boy, twin 9 year old girls. We went to Lost Pines for the 4th of July (3 nights 3rd-6th). We had a great time. There are tons of activities for kids and families. The lazy river area was our home base. My kids enjoyed all the activities set up--dunk booth, tye dye t-shirts, giant slip n slide, meeting the longhorns and Hoss, the dog, face painting, human foosball, Velcro wall, etc. etc. There was PLENTY to do. Some activities were more of a hit than others, but there was no shortage of things to do. They also loved the nightly s'mores bar and the movies on the lawn. We also did horseback riding and archery, which were extra. The fireworks were great, which I was a little worried that it would be a bit lame because the fireworks were only for guests of the resort. The service, for the most part, was great. There were always towels available no matter what time of day.

The rooms were nice. We got 2 adjoining rooms, which made it very expensive. Usually with families of 5 you either have to get a suite or 2 rooms. That's what they tell you, but we know another family that has 3 kids who were all in one room, so I'm not sure how that works and why they were allowed to have 5 people in one room while we had to get 2 rooms. Everything was very expensive--drinks, food, etc. That is normal for a resort because you are basically stuck on the property without other options. We had to go into Bastrop to Walmart to buy one of my daughters some jeans for horseback riding, so we stocked up on snacks, drinks, etc. while we were there, which helped. The "extra" activities were fairly expensive too. Horseback riding for our family was $400 and archery was $250 (not including the tip)--it is a bit annoying realizing that you just spent $400 for a 45 minute horse ride and then there is a line for tip when you sign the bill. Of course, we left a tip for the horse guides and the archery instructors, but at those prices you would like to feel like the employees are already being fairly compensated.

The property was beautiful and huge. My kids want to go back every July 4th from now on, so this may become a tradition!

Room Tip: It's a large property, so a room near the lazy river and on the first floor where you don't...

The property at Lost Pines is one of the most relaxing properties in a Hyatt I've been to. I was very surprised at how much land was there. It was filled with gorgeous trees, happy families and lots of kids riding bikes, horses, playing horseshoes, and swimming. I enjoyed the spa but did not do the pool facilities although walked around them and it was fabulous. This is a wonderful family destination.. I was on a photography workshop and the facility was great for our event as well. They are dog friendly and that was a bonus. Very organized kid activities. Great Texas get away...
Go there...

Room Tip: Bottom floor lets you go in and out to the facilities and some of the rooms are very private patios...

Stayed here recently for a business meeting. This is a family oriented resort, with a large pool, lazy river float, and spa. At least when I was there (late August) it was swarming with kids, including the bar, restaraunt, and grounds. While it is a large property, if there was a place to "get away" from the kids, I did not find it. The fitness center is very nice. Ate at the main and poolside restaurants, the golfside restaurant, and the upscale dinner-only place (that is open on an odd schedule). The service was fine, the food OK but not particularly remarkable. My room was clean, quiet, but showing some age.

Overall, this place is sorta like a Disney World hotel. Fine for a family vacation, but I don't think I would come here for a couples getaway; even if offseason.

We just stayed at this hotel on August 21 & 22. This was our third visit back to this hotel. They have kids at the front desk who don't know what a valued gold passport member is. I wanted to switch our king bed to 2 doubles since it was just my daughter and I travelling this time. I was told that would be $25. Come on. For a hotel that caters to families, do not rip them off by charging and extra $25 for double beds. I asked if we could have a balcony room, guess what, that would be an extra $25! I was told we would have a pool view room. My daughter was so The lazy river is very nice and the buffet breakfast and dinner is a great value with excellent food. The rooms need updating. The wooden four poster beds squeek from warpping. Next time we will drive to San Antonio to the JW Marriott. We love their lazy river, the service and rooms are awesome. Sorry Hyatt, you lost us as customers in Austin.
