After reading all the reviews on here we decided to give this place a try. The pictures looked tranquil, the amenities looked inviting, the food looked savory but alas, we were shot down before getting to try any of it.
I booked the reservation 3 weeks in advance for a quick out of town get away, we only live about 1.5 hrs from Canyon Lake. It was supposed to be a much needed relaxing weekend where we just wanted to sit in a hot tub, have a couple of drinks and not do anything else. Well, it eventually did happen, just not here.
We arrived at 2:55 for our 3:00 check in time and we sauntered past a couple sitting on the porch drinking wine and thought to ourselves, "that is the way a weekend should be". Pleasantries were exchanged as we passed and the search for the office/owners ensued. After finally finding a door marked "owners quarters" we knocked several times and after there was no answer we called. She sounded a little confused and came down stairs to talk to us only to say "we do not have a reservation for you today". I politely smiled thinking that this was just some minor mix up and showed her the email confirmation. She goes back up stairs to check on it and comes down with her husband and says, "ok, I think we know what happened. The people that had the room the night before you decided to stay an extra night and they were in the same room you reserved". I must admit, I thought to myself, "well tell them they have our room and to find another place" but that thought never left my head, after all it was supposed to be a relaxing weekend.
The only thing this place did right was to tell us about another couple of places and they called one and made sure they had a room for us. The problem with that was the only other place that had a room was not on the lake and that was what we were looking for.
Alright... deep breath... no big deal, we can make this work... relaxing weekend...
They did offer us a free night stay and we were prepared to accept this as reconciliation but after the next turn of events they can take this free night and place it where the sun doesn't shine.
We walked out of the door dejected and passed by the people sitting on the front porch without saying anything since they were the ones that had our room (if you can't say something nice...). Approaching the gate that can be a little tricky to open and close I paused because the owner had come out to the porch and started speaking with the other people. "Well, we have figured out the mystery..(into hushed voices as we were still in sight)". After moving through the gate I paused thinking that the owner was telling the people what happened and if these were people with any integrity they would stop us and tell us that we could have the room for the night (honestly, I would have done that) only to then hear roaring laughter coming from the porch. A slap in the face.
The weekend was not ruined, we wouldn't let such people get the last laugh. We went to the Inn that was suggested and it turned out to be incredible in every way. Greeted by smiling and inviting owners on the front porch, showed a beautiful room to us, late check out, EXCELLENT breakfast, secluded hot tub where I enjoyed a cigar and a large glass of scotch until 1 am under the bright stars. We must have said the words "blessing in disguise" a dozen times while we were there.
Not wanting anyone to think that was written by the competition I am hesitant to place the name of the "other" B&B in this review but they do deserve the recognition. I guess I will give them the recognition in another review, it will tell the same story so search for it if you would like.
