“Great Family Fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2014

We walked a nice trail with the family and the kiddos really enjoyed it. We did walk right past a rattlesnake so be on the lookout! The only disappointment we had was that the road that had the shorter trails suitable for small kids was closed and no one told us. We drove a long way until we came to the road closure and had to double back. Also, there is no playground. There is one on the map and after searching for it, stopped and asked a park employee and was told that it was torn down many years ago. It would be helpful to take it off the map so people do not waste time searching for it.

“A Well Kept Secret”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2014

Having never heard of Palo Duro Canyon until I researched for a recent trip in Texas, I was wonderfully surprised to discover there would be a natural attraction like this near Amarillo. Upon arriving at the State Park, the first look was at a scene that was truly amazing. At it got better from there. You can drive down into a part of the canyon and if you have time, hiking, horse back riding and camping is available. Allow sufficient time to watch some of the film in the interpretive center. The history of the canyon is fascinating! And it is just a few miles south of Interstate 40 near Amarillo.

“Scenic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2014

A nice state park, but Panhandle so dry that it detracts for the park. Beautiful terrain and cool cabins with air conditioning. Improvements for car travel underway. We walked some of the trails and it looks like a great camping area. Great area for kids.

“A must see an do when you are in Texas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2014

We went there in March to go hiking on the lighthouse trail. It was absolutely worth it! Amazing colors. Lighthouse trail is pretty easy to walk until the end when you have to climb up to the lighthouse. View from up there is amazing. Plan for a minimum of two to three hours.

“better than the grand canyon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2014

this place is great. in some places, it looks exactly like the grand canyon! the grand canyon, i believe, is limiting. you have to be willing to go a walk a long distance, to get to the bottom. we weren't . it was grand, but this is a smaller version- a doable version. i think it is more visitor friendly. you an drive to the bottom and stop along the way to explore.we tried to get 1 of the only 3 cabins on the rim, but they were all booked up. it was 5 dollars, apiece to get in, but it's the best 10 dollars we've ever spent! we were there almost 8 hours and loved every minute. there is a snack bar, in the canyon. they serve burgers, fries, hot dog, etc. the hamburger were very tasty and reasonably priced. we took an ice chest, with water and snacks. the only wildlife we saw was a turkey and a rabbit.
if you cannot get to the grand canyon, go to palo duro!
