“An Overall Great Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2008

Our family stayed at the HI Express in Canyon on our way back from Albuquerque, NM going to see the "Texas" show in Palo Duro Canyon, which is a great thing to see. We had booked a double bed, non-smoking room on the hotel website for about $97.00 (taxes included). We checked into the hotel and had to leave quickly to see the show. The hotel is only about 25 minutes from Palo Duro Canyon. When we got back, the room was very nice. There was a coffee pot with coffee, tea and a hot chocolate mix setting by it. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean and comfy. The bathroom was nice and clean, too. The next morning we went to breakfast, and were very pleased with the array of selection that they had. They had coffee, milk, cereal, cinnamon rolls, hot sausage patties and even warm biscuits and gravy. I noticed when we were checking in the day before, that they have warm cookies at 2:00p.m. and a snack at 5:00p.m. I would definitely stay at the HI Express in Canyon again!

  • Liked — The cleanliness and location of the hotel.
  • Disliked — The clock wasn't set in our room when we got there.

We stopped in Canyon on our way to Colorado and decided to see the musical in Palo Duro Canyon. This hotel had a wonderful room with 2 bedrooms and a couch in the main room that worked great for our group of 7. It even had a mini kitchen. They also have a really nice continental breakfast, which is much more than just toast. Overall a great value for a large family. We enjoyed the musical, too. The best seats are located in the center of each section, towards the inside isles. The canyon is a little knowm asset, and had a lot of trails to explore. Have fun!

I wasn't sure what to expect as we were staying strictly for the Palo Duro canyon access but our four night stay was clean, comfortable and a great value ($620 for four nights during peak travel week). The staff was friendly and helpful, though I hope they get parental control on that lobby pc ASAP. We stayed in the "honeymoon suite" which had a huge front room and bedroom along with a steam bath and a (non-functioning) jacuzzi tub in the bedroom. The couch folded out but was a painful sleep for an adult, though my kids (about 80 pounds) didn't mind. Everything was very clean, no weird scum in the bathroom or odors as it's also a non-smoking hotel. Our room had a kitchen area with ancient but working micro, small fridge and a sink/prep area and cabinets. There's a small pool and the free breakfast had a good selection, though it did fill up as the morning progressed. But hey, just get up before the 8AM rush, right? It's a shame to read that the other Holiday Inns aren't as nice. Mostly families, older couples and business types staying here, no one loud or yucky.

  • Liked — Claen, big suites
  • Disliked — non-working jacuzzi, pool chemicals about killed me

This is the 2nd time we've stayed here. It's above average compared to other Holiday Inn Expresses I've stayed at. The rooms are clean, and the staff is friendly & helpful. The breakfast area was very crowded. There is a newer Best Western right next door that we stayed at on our way back because of some confusion of bed arrangements and firecodes. I'd much rather stay here.

  • Liked — clean
  • Disliked — the people that make the reservations are not on the same page w/the front desk

We stayed at this motel over Spring Break. Rooms were clean, nice pool, no problems with the staff. Great breakfast. We had no problems. If you are staying in Canyon, eat at Fatboys BBQ or El Patio on Hwy 60.

I had a very good experience with the Holiday Inn Express in Canyon. The front desk was very friendly and helped me out with some research I am conducting in the area. They had good cookies at the front desk as well. The room was large, clean, and in good shape. Great bedding, a nice little kitcheonette, good wireless signal, and very quiet.
