My family and I just got back from Canton, Tx - Mill Creek Ranch. The kids really wanted to do something different this year, and of course they wanted to do camping. So wait a minute..... I'm not the camping type, but I do enjoy a good adventure. In order to please everyone I looked for a so called " upscale" campsite. Yeah right, you might say, but this place was the perfect balance of outdoor fun and "glamping" (glamourous + camping). The resort was a RV park up front, but deeper on the resort were these great little cabins and cottages. They had full amenities, wooden decks, fire pits and of course it’s share of locust and frogs. If you see the pictures on the website, what you see is what you get. I feeling a little apprehensive and hoping the cottages would meet my expectations. I was truly satisfied. We stayed in cabin 57, which had a loft. Well…. not really a loft more like a crawl space about a 4 foot tall space. My children enjoyed the area, but it was definitely made for kids or tiny people (like toddlers...LOL). The mattress in the loft was awful, but we went to Walmart and purchased an eggshell cover. We had a fully stocked kitchen and a small efficient bathroom. The water is HOT, so be careful. We had 3 flat screen Tv's and cable! There was a full size bed in the bedroom and a fold out couch. What kind of camping is this......well my kind!!!! And it got better I was able to pay for internet connection.
We rented a golf cart, $40 a/day (optional). You're not able to drive down to your cottages, but there are wide paved walkways that lead to each cottage. We rode bikes, swam, (the main lodge had a great pool and hot tub), and fished in a stocked pond. Kids caught lots of fish (catch and release only) but no complaints here. The resort supplied the bikes and fishing poles. The cottage came with our own fire pit and gas grill ready to use. We ate breakfast in the morning on our deck and grilled in the evening.
We stayed 3 nights and 4 days.
Just keep in mind that all the cottages are a little different, we had patio chairs but no tables. However, we carried our own fold out table, lawn chairs, and ezup tent, which worked out perfect. Don't forget a little bug or wasp spray, you might need it. The staff at check in was friendly, helpful, and she even helped us with our bags. The young guy at the Mill Store was great as well, he was helpful with our first fishing experience.
This place was very nice, it was great inexpensive getaway, not far from home.
