Let me start by saying that the golden Buddha beach resort is like no other place on the planet, at least not that I've visited. So many peaceful places become too popular and get overrun by tourists and sightseers, but not here. Now getting to the island is not for the faint of heart. A 3.5 hour car ride from Phuket followed by a 1.5 hr long tail boat ride to a seemingly deserted beach. Backpacks proved much easier than roller boards. We were visiting the last week the resort was open so other than the owner, a writer from Lonely planet and another couple we had the island to ourselves. With not much else on the island, it really forces you to take it slow and enjoy your visit. we stayed in the smallest house closest to the club house and fell in love. Beautiful house with just enough room for two, baan tarntawan was our little slice of heaven. Listed as a beach back, this house could be a beach front as there is no other house in front and you get a wonderful view of the sea. It does get loud at night between the sounds of the monkeys, bugs and beach waves but that's all part of the fun. We saw more monkeys freely roaming this island than I have at a zoo, be careful they throw coconuts. All in all we were thrilled with this resort and cannot wait to return in the future. Would recommend this place to anyone visiting Thailand, backpackers and resort goers alike.

The journey from Kuraburi pier on the long tail boat to the island is itself a wonderful trip passing local fishing boats and small islands with breathtaking views puts you at ease for what is to come.
You will not be disappointed.Arriving at the Island and stepping into the warm clear blue water to be greeted by Pena the resort manageress with a traditional Thai greeting and beaming smile is an indication of what Golden Buddha is about. We stayed at 2 of the houses and loved both Baan Sparks house for the first 3 nights. The monkeys, frogs, lizards and hornbills all gave us an inquisitive visit. We then moved to sea blue 1 nearest to the beach with wonderful views of the sunset.Beautiful beach for as far as you can see and mostly deserted. The clubhouse food was delicious and reasonably priced.Activities were available with Brennan the naturist who was so passionate and knowledgeable that you immersed yourself with the nature of the Island and on top of that if Yoga was your thing or not then a lesson with Alex the Yoga master was not to be missed.A trip to Kuraburi market on the speedboat with Brennan and Nika who introduced you to the local cuisine and it gave you time to do a little shopping is well worth doing. All the staff are wonderful and helpful. It's a beautiful place to relax and enjoy the views and as it is not overly populated it gives you the feeling of your own private Island in Paradise.

Such a magical place I hesitate to recommend it to you. What if you book it when I want it?
Like the other reviews have mentioned, if you want a pool, air con and any old hotel that can be found in Hawaii or Phuket or Bali this is not the place for you. But...
if you are looking for a sanctuary with beautiful little traditional Thai houses, quiet empty beaches for as far as the eye can see, warm crystal blue waters to soak in, and a charming club house to dine on yummy food and drink, this you have found it. (Yes believe them when they tell you the pizza is the best in the world. It just might be.) Oh yes and the most important part - the wonderful staff. Couldn't be lovelier. The fellow guests are great too because just like you they wanted to press pause so they have. Everyone is sabai sabai.

Room Tip: We stayed in the least expensive room and thought it was lovely. It is close to the other cabins but...

Bungalow was great, beach was perfect, I really relaxed here. The manager Son was so helpful and professional and solved any issues. We loved the kayaking and the kids loved the monkeys. The only gripe would be the restaurant which was sometimes a bit limited in the menu. We tended to eat at the pizza place more often. The pizza was excellent and also staffed by very helpful friendly people. I'd go back to Golden Buddha again.

You cannot find a more beautiful location than this. A luxurious oasis situated on an island paradise. My wife and I stayed here for 7 days as part of our 6 week honeymoon across Asia. If they have availability, definitely opt for one of the beach front houses. You will always have the wonderful memories of watching the sunset over the ocean while lounging from your front porch. It is a 3 hour drive from Phuket Airport then 1 hour by long tail boat from Kuraburi pier - be sure to have the hotel arrange transport for you. They won't have a problem charging transport to your credit card along with your meals at their restaurant - a major convenience for those who do not want to carry around bundles of Baht. If you are into scuba diving, be sure to check out Blue Guru Dive Center - just a short walk across the pristine beach.

Room Tip: Get a beach front house. Free WiFi available in club house but not in rooms.

I cannot recommend Golden Buddha enough. Yes, it is a trek (and quite expensive) to get there but the transport was seamlessly organised and the boat journey in particular added to the sense of adventure and the feeling that you really were getting away from it all. I was met at the beach by the 'Club Car' and whisked to my villa to drop my bags and then onto the Clubhouse for a welcome fresh coconut and to be given the lowdown on how everything works. From then on it was 5 days of absolute bliss. Pena was incredibly helpful, friendly and accomodating as were all the staff. There was a very relaxed yet professional approach to service and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and changed on a daily basis and I always found it hard to choose. The breakfasts were a particular highlight - perhaps a little on the expensive side - but you could feast like a king on delicious, home made produce and often I didn't end up needing lunch. If you felt like a change of scenery then there are a couple of low key beach restaurants a short walk from the resort (tides depending) for lunch and drinks. The yoga was a particular highlight - the current teacher there is excellent and nothing can quite beat early morning yoga with uninterupted views of the sea. I didn't partake in any other excursions but if you're happy deciding which corner of the beach or resort you want to take shelter, sunbathe or swim in then this is a pretty blissful way to spend your days. There is also tens of kms of unspoilt beaches to walk and stretch the legs. If you do fancy more activity during the day then there is kayaking, nature trips, yoga twice a day and plenty of other things going on. Admittedly I was there when it was quiet - 10 guest at its quietest, perhaps double that at the busiest - but you almost always felt like you had the place to yourself and there is a lovely atmosphere amongst guests, the owners and staff. If you want non stop activities, wild parties and all mod cons then this is not for you. But if you want tasteful, chic, boutique comfort with stunning beaches, beautiful grounds and surroundings all complenting the natural habitat - then this is for you!

Room Tip: The seaview villas looked like the best bet but for a solo traveller and for good value then Baan Su...

We stayed at Golden Buddha Resort in April 2012 for a week and February 2015 for 10 days and both times were wonderful!

We took daily walks/runs on the empty beach, did some snorkel and dive trips with Blue Guru Diving (located 10 mins away up the beach), read a lot, attended yoga classes and ate plenty of yummy food at Golden Buddha. It was really lovely, and the staff are always courteous, friendly and helpful.

Yes, there are insects and geckos since we're living together in nature with them, but rooms all come with mosquito nets, anti-mosquito incense and we never had problems with the mosquitoes and black sandflies that others have mentioned here.

The rooms are clean and made up daily with fresh towels every couple of days, or whenever we asked.

In 2012, we stayed at Baan Naga but afterwards felt it was a bit too secluded (15 mins to clubhouse) so this time we opted to stay in Baan Robin and Baan Chaba; both are beachfront, although Baan Robin doesn't have a direct view to the beach since Baan Lucy is directly in front of it (they can be rented out as a complex if you're a group of more than 2 persons). In both Baan Chaba and Robin, you can hear the voices and ambient noises of the people in adjacent baans, but this didn't bother us, in fact we welcomed it, since it would've been too quiet with just insect + bird noises at sunrise and sunset.

They'd made some improvements since our 2012 visit:
- electricity is now 24 hours instead of 5 hours a day (nice for late-night reading!)
- the clubhouse had been renovated to be more spacious
- the restaurant menu now offers a daily-changing selection instead of a set menu
- a massage sala was purpose-built so the masseuse no longer needs to visit your beach hut for sessions
- daily yoga instructed by the knowledgeable and friendly Alex
- the pizza bar on the beach is nice if you need a change of scene from the restaurant's Thai kitchen
- shower gel + shampoo supplied in the bathrooms of the baans now
- WiFi in the shop/office building and in the clubhouse (switched off during dinner time): I like this since it gave me connectivity to download new iBooks, and be disconnected when we're in our baan

There were more people at GBBR during this visit, mostly families with kids (ranging from infant to teenagers), but it's so spread out that we don't see other people for hours, and often only at mealtimes.

In short, we love staying here and we'll definitely return again! Highly recommended!
