We did the cave tubing on our way to Gaia and it was wonderful. The bumpy road was brutal, but once you got there, your expectations were surpassed. We spent one day reading and relaxing by the waterfall. We also did the ATM tour which was well worth it. Wonderful memories.

Stayed two nights. Very friendly staff... Robby, Lucy and Nigel to name a few ... Grounds are clean ... Saw many species of song birds... Food was good... The continental breakfast lasted us til supper.. We rented a car from the airport. The road from the main hwy to the inn will take a good hour.. It is dirt and at times very bumpy, this is only for the first 20" or so.. A high clearance 4x4 is ideal and advised.. We toured big rock falls( right near the inn ) rio on pools , the 1000 ft waterfall and rio cave on our own. We were rewarded to having seen these places w/o any other people! All a must. Dare to adventure !!! Suggest the waterfall view rooms. Pay more but well worth it... Cascade is closest to restaurant , private bungalow , no deck. Then comes a 4 plex, 2 on top. 2 on bottom. Summit and cliff on top, kain and mist below. We stayed in summit. Nice breeze and the waterfall sound was heavenly. " stream " is next. Another bungalow , no deck then comes "river". A bigger bungalow / 2 levels. Breeze is the last bungalow. Smaller but has a balcony. Would recommend this property.

I didn't see any reviews mention the horrible road that you have to drive on for an hour to get to Gaia. I realize that there is some appeal to its remoteness, but you are also giving up air conditioned rooms, and for us, hot showers (3 cold showers in three days!) and few restaurant choices.
I agree with other reviews that the staff is wonderful, which made our stay pleasant, but for the rates charged, I would have expected more amenities, a nicer lobby and grander rooms. The view of the river and falls is nice, but not jaw-dropping.

The staff at Gaia was wonderful. They really make an effort to get to know you and your preferences throughout the stay and the result is they make you feel like family.
Besides the staff, the location is amazing. Having access to the river was great. We stayed in the cascade room and the sound of the waterfalls was at the perfect volume - soothing enough to put you to sleep and not too loud. I haven't slept that soundly in awhile.
If I had to find something that others might find inconvenient it would be the drive up to the lodge. It is about 30 minutes on a bumpy road but this is a really small price to pay for the experience. This is really the only thing that I can think of as a potential negative.
Book you room now and you will not regret it!

Excellent hotel if you get the right room.
Beware of Cayo Car Rental in San Ignacio who gave us a car with 141'000 miles on the clock, only one front light and no windscreen water...they refused compensation and are to be avoided. In addition the Belize Tourism Board have not helped us in any way

Room Tip: Cabana in the garden

The staff is very friendly and polite. The facilities (bar/deck, dining room, cabanas) are fine. But somehow, we were underwhelmed.

The setting with the Five Sisters waterfall is nice, but not spectacular. The one-hour, rain-forest walk on the property is okay, but not spectacular. I guess I expected more, especially after a 3-hour journey from Belize City.

The highlight of the visit was the trip to Caracol. It was organized by the lodge and led by one of their staff members. The ruins are very interesting and impressive. And after I mentioned my interest in birds, our tour leader helped me see some awesome species.

The food was fine, given that you are in the middle of the rain forest; but it was not truly special.

Given a world of places to visit, I would not pick this one.

We treasure our stay at Gaia! It was perfect! After a beautiful drive, you arrive in a tropical paradise, greeted by the incredibly friendly staff. The rooms are secluded, inviting huts. There nothing quite like waking to the sounds of the jungle. The food and drinks are beyond amazing. The experiences led from Gaia, such as visiting Caracol or ATM caves, are guided in a very authentic way. We went during the off season, and would highly recommend doing so! Our time at Gaia was even more personalized. The staff even decorated the floor and our dining table with flowers one evening for dinner! It was so sweet! We loved our time their and hope to send my parents for their 30th anniversary.
