My family decided to take a few days off together for the summer and decided on San Antonio. After searching for a hotel in the area, we decided to stay in Boerne since we planned on going to Fiesta Texas. Boerne is located approximately 15 minutes from Fiesta Texas, which is located on the northwest rim of San Antonio. It is also within 10 minutes of the Guadalupe River State Park, a beautiful scenic area of the river that has lots of swimming holes and perfect for fishing or skipping stones. The town of Boerne is an old German settlement and has a quaint, small town feel. We happened to be there when the local Oompah band, touted as the oldest in the world outside of Germany, was giving an evening performance in the square. There was quite a crowd of locals, ranging in all ages from strollers to walkers, some of them with a portable grill to cook supper! This town has lots of events scheduled like this throughout the spring, summer and fall. There are loads of yummy restaurants for all types of foodies, wineries, and don't forget the beautiful natural surroundings. We found it a great getaway from the city of Houston, while offering a convenient location to visit San Antonio attractions, the Bandera dude ranches, wineries, even a public zip line if you wish!

New Braunfels was beautiful, but busy and crowded.

We found a jewel of a town on the way to New Braunfels and I would recommend it to everyone: Bourne. It is small, the people are friendly and the shops and restaurants are great fun!!!

I was later told that if we enjoyed Bourne, we would also like Gruene, but our trip was drawing to a close.

On our way home we stopped at the Dry Comal Creek Vineyard where we were treated to some fantastic dry wines. The helpful staff (especially Gail) made this experience one of the highlights of our trip.

We do plan to re-visit Bourne and throw in a trip to Gruene as well!!
Ann :)
