Stayed there with my wife for one night while visiting the hill country on business. Based on what I had seen on their website, I expected a first class resort in every capacity. And although some aspects are what you would expect, many others are not.
For example, the main hall lives up to the grandeur of an African themed lodge with it's decor and view. Also, the breakfast was very hearty, and the service was fine in every capacity. But the pool was not very big, and the hot tub was above ground (something I would not associate witha resort).
My main greivance was with the condtion of the room we had reserved initially (poolside house). It seemed to be an old house that was converted into rooms, and it showed. Not the type of accomodations I was expecting for a resort of this class. Our room had outdated fixtures and carpet in the bathroom (70s look and feel). Not to mention the bathroom was not sectioned off with a door. What made it even worse was that the air conditioning did not work. A temporary window unit was installed. But it was loud and not cooling the room. Also, A/C outage was never mentioned when we reserved the room...something that should have been done.
Much to the credit of the staff, they offered us the option of choosing another room, or receiving a refund and assistance in getting another room at another hotel. We chose another room as it was too late to go elsewhere. The room was newer, and all was fine.
Still...I couldn't get over the condition of the first room. Not up to par at all...especially for the prices they charge.
Also, there was no mention of the cart fees. They make it sound like they're free, but bill you at the end of your stay. Saw this happen to someone. We were asked if we wanted one, but I knew better.
Overall, a good getaway. But the prices either need to come back down to earth, or they need to raise the overall condition of the place to justify them.
