Just came back from 2 nights in the tents and can't wait to go back! It is camping - so bring the supplies you need. But it is nice staying in a tent with a floor and real beds, lighting and either heater or AC. It was really chilly both nights but we were provided with a space heater, extra blankets and electric blankets.
The bathroom is clean and stocked with towels, small bars of soaps and shampoo. Bring your own washcloths. It is very close to all the tents. I would recommend #3 or #4 if you can get it but they are all really close to everything.
We found the safari adventure very exciting. If you go out earlier in the day you have a better chance of feeding the giraffe and camel out of your hand. The ostriches are aggressive and we learned quickly to avoid them. Everyone just needs to remember these are wild animals and unpredictable. But amazing to watch and observe.
Things I learned and wished I had known - get the gate code before you check in as gate is electric and you must have the code to enter the premises. Breakfast is included and is a nice continental breakfast plus extras. The lodge is majestic and clean we loved watching the animals during breakfast. If you don't get a package you can rent the safari carts/golf carts per day. Firewood is included but bring firestarters and a lighter or you can purchase it there.
I found all the staff so helpful and friendly - everyone giving out their cell phone numbers and reminding you to call if you need anything. There is nice comfy seating just everywhere to visit and observe the animals.
When we arrived late in the evening we were thrilled that giraffe and ostriches were all just hanging out over by our tent (of course separated by the tall fence). Really nice first experience. My friends son (9 yrs old) just kept saying - this is the best vacation ever.
They had a wedding so the steak dinner was not available but the owner recommended a restaurant very close by and we thoroughly enjoyed eating there.
I thought I would be bored and think how long can you look at animals but I was not ready to leave on Sunday and enjoyed just relaxing and observing them. We went out either 3-4 times in 1 day and started to learn the patterns of the animals - that was fun.
I would highly recommend the Serengeti and did not have any of the bad experiences I had read here. I certainly had trepidation after reading what I read here but I had nothing but wonderful experiences.
I found the atmosphere and attitude to be laid back and very trusting. If you need or want something, just ask a staff member, they probably have it available for purchase if you forgot it.
We were traveling with a child but saw many couples enjoying it just as much as we did.
What I also enjoyed was watching other peoples reactions to the animals - to see grown men squeal while being pursued by an ostrich is hilarious.
Go and have fun and I can't wait to go back!
