“Ahhh, Italian tonight!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2014

This small, unimposing strip center Italian restaurant is quite a surprise upon entering. The ambiance is definitely of Italy; with pictures of historic sites and a grape arbor down the center, the mood is quickly set. If a glass of wine is desired, you may bring your own bottle, and they will pour for you ($4 corking fee). Then when your menu selection arrives, a pleasant dining experience is most likely. Most entrees are quite good, and modestly priced.
I recommend the GOB, garlic/olive oil/basil, with fresh bread, for starters. Their baked dishes (lasagna - manicotti) are quite good. My wife likes their eggplant rollatini or parmesan. Pizza and pasta is good as well. Service is usually good, but we have had an inexperienced or unmotivated server a couple of times recently!
Overall our dining experience here has been enjoyable and satisfying.

“Good Italian food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 5, 2014

We wanted to find a place near Temple, Tx that served genuine Italian food. We found Luigi's close by and decided to visit. The place was not crowded for 7PM but as it got later, more people started to file in - it was a Wed. evening. The menu had numerous items to select which made it hard for someone not having eaten there before but this was a good sign that they provide a variety of different Italian style dishes. The food was served quickly and was excellent - compliments to the chef. The only thing I mark down is that it did not serve wine, which I usually have with Italian dishes.

“Our "go to" hometown restaurant, but BYO for wine”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014

Luigi's is our single most frequented restaurant where we dine 2-3 times per month but its location in a strip center offers just the basics. Our son loves the pizzas, my wife adores the shrimp scampi and chicken fettucinni. My favorites are the Luigi's Special or Baked Tuscany- both baked pasta combos w/sausage and veggies in an oval dish but in different sauces. House and greek salads are average but the home baked rolls are to die for- esp. with the GOB olive oil dip. Due to proximity to Belton High School they cannot hold a liquor license so wine is BYO with no corkage.

“Watch your checks!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2013

This is an updated review from my last one on Luigi's. The food is still excellent but anyone who goes there or orders take out should watch their checks and keep an eye on how much money (if paying in cash) is handed to the server. There is an older gentleman who is a server there and twice now, he has tried to charge us more than what the meal has cost. The first time, he added $20 to our bill and when we asked another waiter about it, he agreed that it was too much and agree with us on amount that was written on the bill. He confronted the older gentleman who waited on us and this man claimed that it was his handwriting that we had mistaken, I didn't believe it, you cannot mistake $46 for $66! The second time, we ordered take out pizza and my husband went to pick up the pizza, the same older gentleman was at the cash register and my husband paid in cash. Fortunately, he knew just how much he'd given to the gentleman because the man tried to shortchange him by $5. We haven't been back to Luigi's since these two incidences and probably won't go back despite how good the food is. Such a pity, hard to find good pizza/Italian food in this town.

“Superb Sausage Pizzola”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

The four of us had a great meal at the Harker Height's location, The waiter Jimmy was perfect for a romantic dinner for four. The bread was incredible. The other three had really good Chicken Alfredo, but my Sausage Pizzola was superb - excellent combination of sausage, mushroom, onions, and peppers. I would have this every night. Will definitely return!
